Trouble Taking Bottle?

DS will barely suck on his paci, and he will absolutely NOT take a bottle for anything. I've been working at it day-by-day to get him accustomed to it, but DD took to it so easily that I don't really know the best way to do it. I was just wondering if any of you guys have had this problem? He only wants the boobie!

Re: Trouble Taking Bottle?

  • I had this problem as well, try getting someone else to give him the bottle. If you are around he will smell you and will want boob.

  • I have 1 IRL friend that couldn't be in the room while her DH gave the bottle and another that couldn't even be in the house!! It's crazy how they know.

  • Does nursing go well? Any latching issues? If so, the problems with the bottle and paci could indicate a tongue tie.

If all is well on the nursing front, then I agree with previous posters.

  • I'm having the same issue. My LO just took her first bottle yesterday and was gagging a lot. We used a small very slow flow nipple and she still hated it...
She needs to be able to take a bottle when I go back to work :-/

No, he's an amazing BFer. He knew what to do from the moment he was born, and I'm absolutely proud of him... Yet, it's all he wants, and because he's so good at it, I feel bad that I'm trying to get him accustomed to a bottle... but my boobie will not be available when I go back to work, haha!

  • @danithg I tried putting him on his side and kept the bottle on an incline, not straight up, so not too much would get into the nipple at one time and wouldn't overwhelm him. He just sucked and got what he wanted and didn't do any of the gagging this time. He does have more spit up with it though, no matter how long I burp him. I feel so bad for the little guy.
