Breastfeeding Classes

The hospital I will be delivering at offers a free 3 hour breastfeeding class for expectant Mom's who are registered to deliver there. I'm just wondering if it's really worth the time? They also have a lactation consultant meet with you in the hospital to help you out right after delivery so I'm not sure if both is needed. What are your thoughts?

The lactation consultant is really cool!

The thing is, the class probably isn't necessary, but it might be. I didn't take a class, didn't end up needing one, and everything went smoothly for us. But other women I've talked to have a totally terrible time to begin with due to actual issues OR things that are really easy to prevent had they known what to do!

I love BFing and find it really interesting, so if I was in your position as a FTM, I'd take the class. It will help you get comfortable with the idea of the different ways to BF as well as give you some strategies if you encounter problems, etc. I think it could be really valuable.

It's one of those things that you take just in case but actually hope will end up being a waste of time, haha.

As a FTM, I figure that 3 hours is the least I can do to at least get SOME clue of what I'm supposed to be doing (or at least thinking about). And if it sucks and I don't learn anything, then 3 hours isn't too much to waste (at least to me).

I'm a FTM and I'm taking one that H will attend with me. I have NO clue why I'm doing and while I'm sure I could probably figure it out, I'd rather be a step ahead of the game

Babies r us also offers free classes, one of which is on BF... I was planning on going to one at the hospital and having to pay $75 for it but I think I will try the free one first bc it might be all I need!

I think it is. Knowledge is power! The more you educate yourself beforehand the better chance you have of succeeding. I always encourage anyone to take a class to be educated, as well as, gain more confidence.
