Are any of you FTMs taking a tour of the hospital you'll be delivering in? Do you STMs recommend doing it? I think its a good idea; DH is skeptical about it...
I did it and I'm glad I did. Otherwise I would've had no idea where to go (never been to our hospital before). It was nice to know ahead of time what our room would be like.

I am a STM. I did a tour of the hospital in my last pregnancy and i did again this time. I like knowing what things will look like and what birthing options they have. Also, it is nice to meet some of the nurses to see if they are friendly.
I'm a FTM and we're going to do a tour of the facility. Want to know where everything is and what our options are, etc. Also, I think at that time you can pre-register so that when you get there and are in labor, you don't have to fill out pages and pages of forms.
I did it because I'm a person who likes to know what I'm getting into. Also there are several awesome hospitals near us, and I wanted to see what the birthing facilities were like before I made a choice. Also, they had lots of info on all the services they offer, both before birth and in the first year, which I found really helpful. They also have us info on where to enter at different times of day, because certain entrances get shut down in the wee hours of the morning. I just feel better and more settled being able to picture where my baby is going to be born.

We did our tour today and I"m glad we did. Even though they hospital is super close, and we've visited friends in L&D it gave us a chance to ask specific questions, hear questions we wouldn't have thought of, and get some really good info. For example I learned today:
The hospital I"m delivering at doesn't do circumcision, its done at the 1 week check up by the pediatrition.
Learned we are responsible to provide basically everything for ourselves and baby post delivery minus the basics of diapers/wipes.
They will provide a breastpump for me to use in hospital so I don't need to bring mine.
They only provide 1 meal for DH from the time of admittance to discharge so we know to budget for take out or have friends drop stuff off, or add it to the hospital bill.
Every hospital is different so its worth going to learn about their policy, quiet hours, provisions, etc.
I told DH he'll be running around like a chicken with its head cut off when we need to find something. Its also a lock down unit so i wanna know where we can and can't go.
With my first they had a specific day they gave tours. The hospital i am at now just had me call the birth center and see if anyone could give me a tour that day. Also, if you are doing a birthing class in that hospital they usually give a tour. You can check on their website what their policy is.
FTM and we are definitely doing it! Like the other moms, I want to know where to go when the time comes and feel more comfortable when things will be hectic that day!
I am a FTM and we scheduled to do a hospital tour as well. My Doctor actually highly recommended that we do it and said that it will make us feel much more comfortable on the day of. One less thing to potentially stress about right :-)
I just figured this was one of those things you "had" to do . Just called the hospital today to reserve our spot, though we'll have to change it due to a scheduling conflict. I definitely want to know how things are laid out, what the rooms are like, etc, so that I know what to expect, and will be able to visualize where I'll be giving birth.

My mom is a RN on the OB floor where I'll be delivering so DH and I already got a quick tour from her There's another tour that goes with the classes but I don't know if DH will be able to make it to that one, so I was glad he got to at least see the place.

I'm a STM, but with our first we showed up to the tour and it had been cancelled. Also, this is a different hospital (we moved), so we are not familiar with this hospital. We actually have ours tomorrow morning!
We are doing a 2 night birthing class at the hospital the 2nd night has a tour. I am a float nurse at the hospital so I don't need one but DH wants to see it
Yes I would recommend it! I am going to do the tour at the hospital I am delivering at this time. I feel it is a god idea to ask questions, get to know where things are and also their policies on certain issues.
I did it with my first. I'm glad I did it. I'm birthing at the same place and nothing has changed so I won't be doing it again but it's worth it for FTMs
They don't do them at the hospital that I am delivering at. However, it is the hospital that DH works at, so he said he would give me one or ask one of the nurses to give me one.
