Considering a BJ City Select (2nd LO on the way)

I currently have an UBV which I absolutely love. So does DS1, which is my problem. He's 2 and I thought he would be "over" the stroller once LO2 came along.

My plan was to just get an umbrella stroller for him for when we were all out as family, or to consider the Piggyback board. No such luck. He is in love with his stroller and often asks to go in it. I am not considering the second seat because I know DS will not tolerate sitting in a seat that doesn't face out. I've also seen the Piggyback board and I think it would be a pain (looks like it sticks out, looks awkward for the child). I also don't think DS1 would enjoy the Piggyback and that he would just want to sit in the seat.

So now we're considering selling the Vista *tear* and looking into the City Select with the extra seat. I'm scared that, for whatever reason, we will regret it.

Not sure if we should trade in or just buy the Piggyback board + umbrella stroller.

Thoughts?

  • What are you using your Vista for now?  I ask because I had one that I sold when #2 was born and regretted it.  That said, I have a BOB Duallie for walks with the kids but I would have kept the Vista in the car.

I use it mostly for walks and otherwise, it's always in the car in case we need it at the mall or something (outings that require a lot of walking).

  • In the beginning do you plan to wear the baby for outtings? (have seen others doing that) ... am just thinking that by the time a parent would no longer be wearing the baby, your older son may be done with the stroller. He could also decide within the next couple of weeks/month thar he is done riding in it (or love it so much he never wants to give it up)

Do you have a mom's group or a 2nd hand shop near by? Might keep an eye out for a deal on a gently used piggyback board (that way if not used, no big deal).

I would like to just be able to baby wear, but LO is due any day and it's very cold where I live. I only see getting baby from the car to indoors and figuring out how to wear him/her in that transition a PITA. If it were summer, it would be a totally different story.

Unfortunately UBV's are not very popular where I live. I look online all the time for used boards, but there isn't anything.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm thinking I may play it by ear and see how DS1 reacts over the next couple of weeks before deciding to take the plunge. I really don't want to sell it and regret it.

  • I had/have the same situation. I love the vista for one child but not for two. My girls are 28 months apart and my older daughter still likes to ride in the stroller. She likes it even more when the baby is in the stroller also. I kept my vista and purchased the city select in addition. I figured once my other was over the stroller I'd sell the city select and keep the vista

Does your DD1 enjoy the City Select as much as she loves the Vista?

I've thought about doing this too as both strollers sell very well, I just feel that with my luck my DS1 won't want anything to do with the City Select.

  • She does! I have the snack tray so as long as we're rolling and she can snack then it's fine. She mostly enjoys it because DD2 is in the stroller. I noticed that what the baby is doing is what the older wants to do also. I was concerned about the city select seat being small then the vista main seat, but the city selects canopy raises up and the leg rest can be adjusted to go lower. Either way it's better then the vista rumble seat. I tried it in the store and my older kicked the seat above her and then kept leaning out of the seat to look around. The vista would be great if she didn't like the stroller as much as she does. If I could use it to walk thro parking lots and busy areas and then take her out, then I'd have just kept the vista but this is the not case.
  • can't you get a 2nd seat for the UBV? or the boogy board?

  • I like the Vista as a second double stroller but not so great as a fulltime option.  I have a double BOB which I keep in our garage for walks and then I have a Versa with the Rumble seat in my car. It's a perfect combo for me since I don't always need a double in my car.
