I'm from an extremely small town in South Jersey. Our only claim to fame is the Jersey Devil was spotted there. We also have the oldest log cabin in the Western Hemisphere (which is insane when you think about it) That's all I got.
The town I live in now (15 miles away) had a child murdered last year and it made national news.

Damn, my life is entertaining. haha
Pure life bottled water is bottled in Greenwood, true story says so on the label of the bottle. I told my sister this who lives in the greenwood area and was buying pure life bottled water. DH informed me of this.
Um, Johnny Depp was born here. And President Clinton came here to eat BBQ once at our semi famous BBQ joint (if you watch the travel channel) and a lot of people come here for the BBQ festival we have annually.

The Office. So since moving away from the area I sometimes watch reruns when I'm feeling nostalgic and look out for local references.
I work with the guy who Andy Bernard's character was based on! His name is really Andy Bernard
Nothing special about my small hometown in VT. It was so small we didn't have a high school. I went to high school in the town where the Simpsons movie premiere was!
A girl was on the today show because she said "hell" or "damn" or something in her valedictorian speech a couple years ago and our stupid jack wagon of a principal said he wasn't going to give her her diploma. So I guess that's famous. Other than that, we are just a sleepy little town between Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
Not exactly my hometown (I grew up in the country), but home to the #1 party college (until recently) in the US, where greatness is learned and couches are burned. No one has ever heard of my actual hometown, haha.
I think this is where I grew up... if the couch burning happened in the "canyon".
Most of our couch burning occurred in Sunnyside... lol. Also car flipping and dumpsters being lit on fire.
The only thing I can think of my hometown being infamous for is the Montgomery County Snipers. That was a terrifying time to live here.
Most of the band, OAR went to my high school. I don't know how big they are outside of our area, but I love them.

Al Capone used to run through the town I grew up in. My grandma dated one of his cronies. She has crazy stories.
I grew up right outside of Chicago city limits, on the southwest side. Chicago has too many to name
Your grandma sounds like a badass!

@sarahdallen - I grew up in Pitman - close to both of you ladies!
Pitman isn't known for much other than recently there being a lot of hullabaloo about a "Keep Christ in Christmas" banner hung downtown. And it made national news last year for a double murder/suicide.
Where I live now (Winston-Salem, NC) is known for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company - Joe Camel, Winstons, Salems, Pall Malls, etc. Also the hometown of CP3! Maya Angelou teaches a course at Wake Forest University.
sarahdallen - I'm in Clayton now, but I'm from Gibbstown and went to GCHS. I've lived in a few places in between, Greenville, NC, Cape May Court House, and Mantua.
From what I could tell, there are at least 5 ladies from this area in this group.
My hometown had the Little League World Series! Then we moved south to BBQ central, also home of Richard Childress and the Childress racing museum if you're into nascar and Dale Earnhardt. Zach Galifianakis grew up where we live now and we also win the award for the county with the most meth lab busts in our state in 2013. Represent.

My hometown is famous for being the turning point of the Revolutionary War- Saratoga National Battlefield is a mile from my house, and we found some musket shot in our yard this summer with metal detectors probably from that era. Apart from that we are close to lots of famous stuff, but we don't even have a stop light or a store of any kind in my little hamlet.
Food lion(grocery store chain) started in my home town and it's where their main offices are. Cheerwine(a soft drink) originated here. Hootie and the blow fish band member lived here and that's pretty much it. NC
