Naming Help

Okay, so it's really hard to name a human. My DH and I haven't fell in love with any names yet. I know we still have a lot of time but at this point I'm thinking we will meet her then name her.
I am however kind of hung up on the name August. It was my grandfathers middle name, and I think paired with a feminine middle name that it works for a girl. What do you think?

FWIW - my DH and I both have names that aren't strange but we don't really know any others with the same names. I like the thought of our children experiencing the same thing but I don't want to name them something wacky.

Thanks for taking the time to read. Input appreciated. =]

Re: Naming Help

  • I like August. The baby names board is also great at giving suggestions of similar names based on a certain name or style that you like.

  • Choosing a name is way harder than deciding to have the kid!!

We flipped through a baby name book after we found out we're having a girl, and wrote down every girl name that we both liked. We had 15 first name name options, and a couple middle name options. We've been slowly eliminating names from the list, and are open to adding to the list as well. We are definitely taking our time about it, and haven't ruled out choosing two names and seeing what LO looks like before finalizing.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I like the name August a lot but I think of a little boy when I hear it.  That being said I think a girl could own it and rock it.
  • I would choose Augusta over August for a girl. I like either though.

Don't know why I didn't think of that! I never venture out of m14. Thanks for the tip.

Seems like that's exactly what we're going to do.

  • I totally agree naming a human is hard! My cousin named her son August and I didn't like it at first but it really grew on me till I loved it! I think for a girl it would be lovely!

I like August but not on a girl at all.  It's all boy to me.

My DH is demanding that I suggest Augustina.  I'd like to say for the record that I hate it lol

I love that he wanted to help but HECK no to Augustina.

  • I like August, but I've only ever heard it for a boy.
  • I like august, but it's a traditional, old school boy name. I'm afraid you'd look dumb/confused/misinformed rather than trendy. More of a "you know that's a boy's name, right?" than "cool choice for a girl!"

Augusta if you're stuck on that name is a better choice.

  • I actually really like August for a girl. I do tend to like traditional boy names for girls, though. Don't like Augusta at all.

  • It's a boys name, IMO.  If I were to use it on a girl it would be in the MN sopt.  As a first name, I can see your LO spending her entire life dealing with the assumption that shes a boy before people meet her.

  • I like it! Paired with the right middle name it would be awesome. It sounds very classic and i think it'll age well with her.
  • I love it for a girl, especially since it's a family name!

  • I think paired with the right middle name it's beautiful :)
  • I'm usually very anti boy name for girls but I do like August for a girl. GL naming a human is hard!

  • Not a huge fan because it is a little more boyish to me, but it could be cute, and it's neat that it's a family name. Middle name thoughts:

    August Catherine
    August Victoria
    August Claire
    August Olivia

I agree. Choosing a name is tough!
