Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone's 6 month old not crawling?

ds refuses to crawl. Pedi says it fine and he'll probably walk before he ever crawls but of course dh is in a fit over it and trys to *help* him crawl across the floor.

It involves dh sitting behind ds kind of pushing/scootching him on his belly across the floor. In the meantime ds just lays there and screams. Poor kid. dh insists he enjoy it, lol.

ds has hated tummy time from day 1 no matter how we do it with him. He'd rather stand anyday than be on his belly.

  • I think 6 months old is on the early end for crawling. (I know some kids do, but many done!) My son is 6 1/2 months and when we went to his DR appt last week, she said that the fact he was sitting up very easily was good for his age!

  • Yup, DD is not crawling yet. I was told the average crawling age is like 7-8 months.
  • 6 months?  Yeah, we were mastering sitting at 6 months.  DS still isn't a crawler yet and I'm not too concerned.
  • Um. my DD will be seven months tomorrow and she is definitely NOT crawling.  I think six months would be pretty early.
  • Still not totally crawling and we are 10mos!
  • Oh!! That's GREAT to hear! I seriously had no idea Angel

Everyone just keeps asking if he's crawling yet. Whew. I feel a lot better!!

  • My about 7 month old is not crawling...
  • Not even close, and DD is 7 months

  • No where near crawling!
  • no crawling here.  my book says 8mths is average.

  • 6 months is really early for crawling

DS didn't crawl until almost 10.5 months. Then two weeks later he was pulling up and cruising everywhere. He was a preemie, but even going off his adjusted age that would have been about 8.5 months before he crawled.

  • Tell your dh to ENJOY the not crawling fase....My ds isnt crawling yet either, My 1st ds was a tummy time hater also and he crawled at about 7 1/2 months old and it was all down hill from there, there into EVERYTHING and you have to keep an eye on them constantly....He'll wish you can just put him down for a minute and he'll stay, THEY take off as soon as you look away..... 6mos is still early so dont stress over it, some babies just dont crawl at all.....
  • DS crawled fairly early at 7 months.  Before that he army crawled, but that wasn't until after 6 months.

Also, crawling isn't an "official" milestone - some babies skip it.

  • DD didn't start crawling until aroun 7 1/2 months.  I think that six is early.
  • DS is 7 months today and not crawling. ?He just started to army crawl last week, but only if he's really motivated.

  • my 8 month old is not crawling, but she does pull her self into a standing position and will probably walk before or even if she ever crawls
  • My oldest son never really crawled. He rolled everywhere and then finally started walking at 14 mo. My first twins crawled at 5 mo and then pulled up at 6 mo. These twins crawled at 9 mo and 10 mo (for real, Alice was army crawling a bit earlier than that).

Crawling is all over the board. Trying to help him crawl like that is just going to make him hate being on his tummy even more.

  • He's only 6 months old, give him time!  My 9 month old isn't crawling yet...just scooting himself around and rocking on hands and knees.

  • 6 months is early from what I understand.  Mine started crawling at 7 months.
  • Um, my 11-month-old isn't crawling!

  • I nanny for a 6 month old little boy, and I have a 6 month old nephew, and neither of them are crawling. Don't worry, they all catch up! :)
  • Owen didn't start crawling until he was almost 10 months.  Do not even worry!!  6 months is EARLY for crawling.
  • 6 months is really early for crawling.  DD has been doing it for only a few weeks.
  • DS didn't crawl til almost 9 months.
  • Not every baby crawls anyway, it is not even considered a milestone. Some babies scoot on the bottoms or crab walk or go straight to walking. Not a big deal at all.
  • DS did not army crawl until after 9 months and still is not doing anything more than that.  Pedi says it's fine.

  • I agree with PP about it being early to crawl.  Livvy is not crawling though she is scooting backwards.  I am not worried though....

  • DS had just started sitting up on his own at 6 months and he crawled at 8 months
  • 6 months is really really early for crawling.  Most babies just start to sit on their own around 6 months, and the muscles needed to do that are needed to crawl.

She army crawled at 8 months and then crawled with her belly off the floor a couple weeks later.

  • Um, DD is almost 10.5 months and still not crawling..  I am not worried in the least.  In due time, my friend!

  • My girl isn't crawling at all and we're not worried in the slightest.  She had a gaping hole in her heart until 2 weeks ago, I think we can cut her a little slack if she's a bit "behind" the norm for physical development- especially since she's months "ahead" on the social and cognitive stuff.
  • DD is 8 months & not crawling,  I'm not too worried.

  • alaina just turned 7mos today and has just started rocking on all fours and i am soooo not worried about the crawling thing. in fact, i much prefer it this way lol
  • ppl will ask you stupid ? because they don't know what to ask or are not versed on child development.  I had someone as me if my 5 month DD was walking yet.  Just because ppl ask doesn't mean your child should be doing it.  8 months not crawling.

  • Yeah...my DS isn't even rolling yet, let alone crawling! He definitely can nudge himself in any direction (one time I found him with his head at a completely different end of the crib) but he's nowhere close to crawling

  • dd didn't crawl until a couple days after her 9 month b-day. ?
  • Yeah, you're in good company.  My DS just rolls where he wants to go at this point and seems perfectly content with that.
  • DS is nowhere near crawling yet, and I couldn't be more okay with that.

  • Is nobody else concerned that this chick's husband is forcing the child to do something he doesn't want while the kid screams 2 months ahead of when he should be able to do it!?!?!  ...and she's breeding again?  WTF?!
