My UO: I hate anything that tastes bitter. This includes beer, coffee, dry wines, etc. I just can't stand it. Even with almond milk and sweetner, I still can't do coffee b/c of the bitter aftertaste it leaves in my mouth. *shiver*
My related UO is that e-cigs are a bunch of BS. There is formaldehyde in that crap! I don't need to be "preserved." My pedi just posted a study about how e-cigs are already increasing childhood abuse of tobacco products. I don't care if they're just vapors- they smell! My BIL was using one when my son was present and I was caught off guard so I didn't make a stink because I was without my husband and his family tears into me. But when he visits again that thing is not coming in my house!
Before I knew what those things were, I saw someone 'smoking' one on the subway and I had to do a double take. They're just weird.

Mine probably isn't that unpopular but it's more of a PSA: If you pass a child with a helmet, who is acting in a way that seems odd to you, has a wheelchair, crutches, or anything that sets them apart from the crowd, I think it is the height of rudeness to stare at them. They already know they're different; they (or in my case, the parents) already feel self-conscious enough without you staring openly at them when you walk by. I reserve the right to trip you if you are busy staring at my child and not looking where you're going.
I was totally Doggy Mommy and DH and I would joke about Betsy dog being our "pseudo child." We never posted pics on Facebook though until she died. A bunch of our friends were really fond of her also so they liked the little tribute we put up. She was absolutely part of the family and I love her and miss her all the time. That being said pets and children are not the same and I would pick DD over a pet any day, no contest.
My UO I hate regular cleaning products and think home use, except in special circumstances, is borderline irresponsible because they are horrible for the environment. With all these antibiotic resistant bacteria popping up we are still wiping everything down with disinfectant effectively selecting for only the strains that don't respond to the disinfectant. I do think its important to wash your hands with some naturally disinfecting after going to the bathroom however.
I also realize antibiotic resistant bacteria are showing up because of the over use of antibiotics in food and medical care but we also overuse disinfectant as well so there is no reason that the same can't happen there too.
I use allthebleach. It keeps us from getting sick so I'm down with it. Sorry, environment.
I think way too many people post messages on Facebook just to get "likes" and complinents. I have a friend who does this and he gets ticked if you voice anything in response other than "you are correct and an amazing person." It is immature.
Similarly, people who give me crap for posting infrequently on Facebook as if I am rude for not sharing my day-to-day life online need to get a life.

June 2014 Mommies' January Signature Challenge: Throwback baby pic
I LOVE red hair. Always have, always will. I wanted red hair like Ariel. (The Little Mermaid) That being said, red hair isn't for everyone.
My UO is unless you're under 21 or over 50, (or a rockstar, hairdresser or work at a tattoo shop) I don't think you should dye your hair that "fake" red. The red that's almost purple, you know what I'm talking about?? Looks like you used box color, left it on too long and it oxidized and now you have purplish/red hair. Like this pic:

I always wonder... Was that on purpose?
I did that purple/red thing in college on accident. I thought I was dying my hair auburn, but to my naive surprise, it was not. Luckily, it bled out pretty quickly. I too love red hair, but will never try to dye mine red out of the box again.

My cousin is 26 and pays like $100 to get it done every 8 weeks or so. I've tried to tell her it just doesn't look good! (Plus she's extremely pale and it makes her look more washed out and pasty.)
I used to hate my red hair when I was younger and dyed it dark brown all the time. Now I embrace it!
I also really can't stand Facebook anymore. I see people post the dumbest statuses but I just think "you're so dumb, I don't want to waste my time arguing with you." So people get tons of likes and all the other dumb people agree with them. They keep standing on their internet soapbox and spouting off ridiculous opinions because educated people don't want to waste their time correcting them.
I hate it when people put gigantic headbands with huge flowers and such on their babies. It looks so ridiculous. Like, that flower is as big as your newborns face. Don't you think you should tone it down a bit?
My UO today is that I used to think the whole pickle/pregnant woman cliche was stupid. Now I am a pickle/pregnant woman. I want them all the time. That's what I get for being judgy mcjudgerson.
I was really sad last night when I couldn't find pickles in my fridge. And I forgot to pick some up on my way home and now there is a big ole blizzard going on. Wahhhh
Pickles are gross. Period. I will not eat things if they have been touched by a pickle, say at a restaurant. I have to be very careful to remember to ask that they not bring me one.
Legitimate question: I can understand vinegar being better for the environment than bleach, ok. But the argument against disinfecting everything...vinegar does the exact same thing bleach does, so how is it better than bleach when coming from that angle?

And baby girl headbands that look like garters. I don't get it!
@read247 I love that color hair and wish my hair was that color!

Don't you have an immunocompromised child in the house? That would be the "special circumstances" I mentioned.
Easy, killer. You are correct; I do have special circumstances (one of my very favorite phrases that I get to hear 4470384 times a day). But I used it before he was born and I will use it even when he's big. It's just my thang.
My UO today is that I used to think the whole pickle/pregnant woman cliche was stupid. Now I am a pickle/pregnant woman. I want them all the time. That's what I get for being judgy mcjudgerson.
@LoHerrim, me too! I have eaten an entire jar of little gerkins this week. Le sigh.
"And all the house elves came to help, and THAT was the day Voldemort was defeated!"
I call myself "mommy" to my dogs, and my husband is "daddy." No shame.
I agree with folks who say that dogs do a lot to help prepare for kids. I know it will be WAY harder, but you learn teamwork and communication (like getting up in the middle of the night for potty breaks or budgeting for daycare/vet bills or determining what brand of insanely expensive organic dog food you will buy), and you figure out how to compromise about a lot of things (allow me to reiterate: insanely expensive organic dog food). My dogs are my family; I know things will change when the baby gets here, but they have done a lot to make our home complete.
Also, DH and I do impressions of the dogs, imagining what they are thinking ("saying"). They "call" us mommy and daddy when we do those impressions. STILL NO SHAME. DOGS ARE FUCKING AWESOME.

Just wait until you can do this with your baby!! SO much fun!
FFFC (a day early): we do this already. DH calls LO Franklin (we don't know the sex yet), and they have full-on "conversations" pretty much every day. We're kind of weird, I guess.

I will not eat them in a box
I wi not ea them with a fox
I will not eat them, Sam I am
I do not like green pickles man!
I got a poem!!!!! Literally this has made my day .
Just to cover all the bases... I love my dog like my kid and I think if more people thought of them that way less animals would be abused, I had to know the sex of my child, if DH didn't want to know I wouldn't tell him and if you don't like pickles you are a very strange person.
I think the 2nd red almost anyone can pull off because it looks deliberate. Makes me wanna dye my hair... But I'll buy a wig instead I have one in almost every color.
For all of you natural redheads: I'm super jealous! Don't cover it up, it's gorgeous!!
@read247 I have olive skin tone so I can pull off purple tones but not orangey tones. The 2nd picture is so fun though! Maybe someday
Me too! I'll never look good with the copper red, but the bright red I would love. Way too expensive to maintain and too damaging for my dark brown hair, so just wigs for now.
I think Christmas decorations should be taken down by this weekend at the latest. If they are still up they shouldn't be lit. Christmas is over.
I find drawn on eyebrows unnerving and have issues trusting people that have them.
I have more but have a ton of work to do so will be back on my next break
In some religions, Christmas Day actually begins the season and ends on the Epiphany. However, I still agree with you. Take that crap down! It's kinda depressing now that it's all over.

My Christmas stuff is all still up and the lights on our tree are on as we speak.

I'm waiting for someone to get dd these.... getting thrown strait in the closet. My stepneice had a permanent dent in her head bc her mom thought she needed it since she had little hair. I deff took them off as soon as her mom left
Seriously. I had an old friend on Facebook who posted picture of her toddler with giant ridiculous bows and all I could do was roll my eyes every time I saw it. Ended up just deleting her because it bugged me so much. People go all out with feathers and jewels and ribbons. They look so gaudy and dumb. Yuck. Also, sorry if I fail with this quote. I'm mobile so it might not work well.

Also another reason I'm glad I'm team green. Hoping that will minimize the amount of awful headwear I'll get if I turn out to have a girl.

I am dying to start a wig collection but my husband won't hear of it. Sigh. He doesn't "get it."
I love the giant head bows and if I have a girl, she will have one. She won't wear it a lot, just occasionally so I can take pictures. I also hate pickles and don't want one near me. Yuck! I will trade my pickles for your head bows
I love the big bows but agree that they will not be worn all the time. Maybe for special occasions.
I hate that my SIL 7 month old baby boy has a flat spot across the back of his head becasue she wont move him around to different positions. DF told her that they needed to consider looking into getting it fixed, such as a helmet, before he gets to old to fix it. Makes me so angry because this precious baby is going to have a flat head forever!!! And she is a decent mom. Maybe not the best but she does pay attention and he is always clean and fed! I just dont get it!
I loathe the weigh in thread. I cringe every time I see it. It must be a UO bc there are just so many posts!
I agree with this. It just breeds insecurity with the women who are freaking out over not gaining anything and the women who are worried they've gained more than the women in that thread.
I posted already but something reminded me of this so I'm posting again. My UO is that I think its really silly (and a little frivolous) when people pay extra to go somewhere else to find out the sex of their baby early. I just can't see why you wouldn't want to save that money and wait another month to find out. Seems like there's not much point especially because early on they can be wrong and also a lot of places I've seen don't even have certified techs, just someone who is trained on the job. But I'm team green so maybe that's why I don't get it.

Maybe it's because I have this fear, but I don't particularly like it either. It feels like we're comparing each other's weight losses or gains and that isn't productive. It would make more sense to me to have a healthy living check in where we talked about the healthy choices we're making while pregnant (eating the right foods, taking our prenatals, working out a few times week) instead of focusing on how much weight we've gained or lost.
I hate it as well and would prefer a healthy check-in instead. I am very overweight to begin with and people posting their weight and saying they are fat is hard to see. I completely understand what they are saying... They feel fat compared to their normal self, but I cant help but feel upset seeing it. I just think pregnancy brings up enough body issues that we don't need to add to them.
I disagree with the statement in the home birth thread that one's partner doesn't get a say in how the birth goes down (ie, home birth versus hospital) because he's not the one giving birth. It's his baby too, and you're a family. I think it's a decision both parents should be comfortable with.
Granted, in making the decision, I think mom's opinion should be allowed to dominate, but if your partner is really uncomfortable with the idea, dismissing his concerns because he's not the one pushing the baby out seems kind of unfair to me.
Not actually my entire statement. I followed it by asking what the basis for the father's discomfort was. Because if it was just blanket discomfort without information then dad OWES it to mom to do some research, get informed and have a conversation with mama. The moment my husband got informed about what practices are common with hospital birth these days - he immediately recognized this as predominantly my choice and also one that he preferred. If he is informed and still uncomfortable - different story - although I have never seen it go down that way (doesn't mean it can't happen).
