Re: Decklan v. Deklan v. Declan

  • Hmmm I can't say I like one of those over the other.  What is wrong with the traditional spelling that makes you not like it?

  • I prefer traditional spellings so I'd person spell it the way it is usually spelled.  Though, if you must change it Deklan is more appropriate.

  • Neither. Sorry, I'm not a name spelling changer fan. Declan (although it's becoming more popular) is still a relatively unknown name. Why make that name even harder IMO?

  • Yeah, my first thought was, "wait, what's wrong with Declan?".
The name itself is unique enough "decklan" is just a little too forced-youneek.
  • If you don't like how a name is spelled, maybe choose another name that you like better. That's my opinion.
  • I love the name but hate the spelling of it.  I dont know why.  I liked the "k."  I like names that are different and unique.
  • I think it is hard when someone chooses a name that is already unique and tries to make it uniqueerererer.  My son's name is Asher, it is still pretty different in these parts, not many kids have it.  I saw it spelled as Acsher once and it made my skin crawl.  lol.

  • I, like everyone else vote Declan.

If you HAVE to be different, Deklan I guess. I just think it's weird looking.

  • I agree with everybody pointing out that Declan is already a unique name with the usual spelling.

For Decklan, my first thought is deck chair and Deklan my brain keeps trying to read as Dee-clan, accent second syllable, like "de plane de plane!"  (It's got to be from an old tv show.  My FIL says it randomly sometimes.)
  • If you have to use the K I'd vote Decklan

  • Declan is a great name.  But the Yoo-Neek spellings you are suggesting are atrocious.
  • I like the name too, but really prefer it spelled Declan.

I dont think you needed to delete your question. Its a nice name and if you don't like Declan then I vote Decklan. I'm sure either way he'll get used to automatically spelling his name.
Edit: cause autocorrect changed spelling of name
  • Decklayn? Declyn? Deklyan?

  • If it's a girl it could be Decklynne.

I read this as Duckling. Lol. Not even close.
  • Sheesh, seriously? Trust us, your son will thank you for not putting a "K" in his name if you decide to go with Declan.

    :-??

Not really sure why you deleted the post but... Whatever.

I'm reading Declan and Deklan two different ways. If I had to choose any I'd pick Declan, but it's NMS.
  • Nice DD. Don't ask for opinions if you're going to get upset by the ones that don't say what you want them to.

As a general rule, if you want people to forget you asked a question, don't DD the question.  It usually draws more attention to the post. (FYI, I am not flaming you, but just offering some advice.)

Also, I would go with Declan or Deklan.  Decklan is too close to Deckland which makes me think of a giant store filled with porches.

    This. This and this.

I opened this thread out of pure curiosity what I should forget about. Now I will remember. And for the record: Declan is best.

  • I agree that it us a unique name, so I don't see the need to change it. If you must, I prefer Decklan.

  • Not a fan of the name (just NMS I guess) but you should spell it Declan.
