A Tale Of Two Ultrasounds

What an interesting day it has been! Our anatomy scan was today (they don't tell you how things look, just send a report to the doctor). We had an elective ultrasound 10 days ago and they said 75% we were having a girl and based on the pictures they gave us I believed it. Today it was pretty obviously a boy! We are obviously thrilled either way but what a shock! Here are the "proof" pictures. The first one was from the elective and the second one was from today.

  • That's crazy, you should get your money back from the elective place… haha  ;)  Congrats on your baby boy!

  • Congratulations! What a difference 10 days made!

Will you receive a phone call or have an appointment with the doctor to review the overall scan results? We met with the doctor about 15 minutes after the scan.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • The doctor said "if there's anything to discuss I will call you. If not, see you in 4 weeks"...
  • Congratulations on your little boy!

  • To add to the humor, my DH (who is a paramedic) showed both pictures to his sonographer friend at work last night who said "hmmm....that's a hard call". He did say to come in one night next week and he will do a quick ultrasound to see what he sees.

I guess this baby just wants to keep us guessing!

Oh geez!  I think I would wait another few weeks and then go get a 3d/4d ultrasound-- maybe at another place.  I would think that by then, you would definitely be able to tell.

  • oh man, this makes me nervous! at my a/s they were 75% girl haha.
however, she was flipping around like crazy in there that the tech was fairly confident we would have seen a flash of boy parts if that were that case.

The tech at my elective said 76% girl too....
  • These posts freak me out. My tech said 95% sure girl at 16w4d, but hearing these types of stories makes me wonder :c)

  • Call me the skeptic mother of two boys and one on the way who desperately wants to see a vagina in every ultrasound...but the first sono looks way more convincing. I wouldn't buy anything blue yet. A lot of things can look like a penis (cord, hand, etc), but you can't really fake a vagina.

"You can't really fake a vagina" made me bust out laughing!
  • TRUTH! Vagina trumps all.
  • I agree - I see more in the girl pic than the boy pic.

  • I don't know.. That penis doesn't really look like a penis to me. I thought for sure this was another boy because I saw something but then the tech moved around and it wiggled out of the way but those cords can look very penis like! Hope it's cleared up for you soon, is definitely go to an elective place, they are only trained in gender determination most times and ours spent well over 15 mins JUST rechecking the gender to be sure. Plus, it's so much more relaxing and peaceful than the dr ultrasounds!
