Ready to feel old?

20 songs turning 20 in 2014. I just realized that half of these are on my workout playlist. I refuse to believe that Come Out and Play is two decades old. REFUSE.

Re: Ready to feel old?

  • I played Hold My Hand over and over and over again when I was younger...

So glad that "hootie" is now a country singer because he is awesome. Oh and his name is Darius Rucker, in case you want to know ;)

  • Oh FFS, now I do feel old! Really, "I Swear" is 20 years old! That was my boyfriend and I's song at the skating rink. Still seems like yesterday I was skating to all these songs... :((

  • Jeez, I feel like they went straight of my "favorites" playlist.

  • I would have guessed that the majority of them were ~15 years old, but my mind is still blown. Also, totally listening to this for the next two hours and adding what I don't have on Spotify. Who doesn't love a good 90's playlist?

Also, I went to two Offspring concerts with my older sisters as a child/pre-teen. That band Lit opened for then once (who were obnoxious and I loved them). I stood on chairs and got yelled at for doing so. I felt really cool. Oh, youth.

Aww, skating rinks were the best and so kid-romantic. It seems like they've become completely obsolete :(

  • Yeah, those were all the popular songs when I was in middle school, so if I actually stopped and thought about it I would realize that they're 20 y/o. But I've been realizing a lot lately that I feel old.
  • I turn 30 in 9 days... if THAT didn't make me feel old already! -.- It's like this article was just copying and pasting some of my playlists on my iPod!

One of the first dates my husband and I ever had was when we were in the 7th grade (ages 13 and 14).  We saw Offspring and the Vandals and the Lunachicks opened for them.  You can imagine the awkwardness when the Lunachicks came out while the Vandals were playing and started throwing huge, floppy, multicolored dildos into the crowd.  Good times.

  • Yeah...I feel old!  Thanks!  I forgot about that song "Stay".  All my friends thought we were so cool driving around and singing that at the top of our lungs.  Gin and Juice was also a favorite...but the one that's killing me is Sabotage!  And 'I'll make love to you"....ugh...I'm old!  And my 20 year reunion is in 2015.  Yikes!

  • I felt old a few years ago when the local radio station played Stone Temple Pilots on the "Flashback Lunch Hour".  WTF???  They still rock, even in and out of rehab stints, they still are awesome!  I refuse to believe that I listen to oldies.
  • The chorus played in my head when I read the song title on every.single.one?
I hope my 16 year old cousin feels like this when Thrift Shop turns 20. :P

  • I am physically incapable of listening to "Stay" without singing passionately into my hairbrush/water bottle/whatever phallic item is handy.  Incapable.

Also, Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites, amirite?

I remember lying to my parents about where I was, so that I could go see NOFX at the Vans Warped Tour when I was like 14. I got some creepy old dude to buy us a beer. So punk rock!

If I really think about it, I know these songs have to be plenty old at this point... I'd just never thought about it. It's weird to think "Oh, you know, 20 years ago in the '90s..."

I've taken my 7-year-old skating a few times, showed her my old tricks, she was less-than-impressed. Broke my heart. Some of my best memories are from the skating rink. I even had my own custom skates. What what!
Dude, I totally used to take skating lessons. Roller skating lessons. To, like, roller skate competitively.

Omg, Warped Tour...what a shit show. I grew up in NJ, so we also had the "Skate and Surf Festival," which was like 2-3 day long Warped Tour. I went a few years and stayed overnight all the while lying to my parents about where I was. And we always somehow scored booze. That's when Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Brand New and all those other emo punk bands were big. And I wore a crop top that my friend made that said, "Not a Groupie." And again, I thought I was so cool. Hahaha! Nostalgia/Embarrassment.

  • Omg all my favorite jams!!! This definitely makes me feel old, but I've always had an old soul and I was almost 5 when these came out. I was that kid singing Melissa Etheridge and Depeche Mode into the microphone of my fisher price tape player in the front seat of my moms car.

  • Cotton Eye Joe was my jam. Still is, if you must know.
  • Half of these are on my go to playlist. Now I feel old. I remember I taped the Crazy music video from MTV on a VHS and used to watch it over and over. Remember, when MTV actually showed music videos, good days!
