I think that chiropractic care for infants is stupid. I can't believe that people actually waste their money on that kind of stuff. This also applies to massage. I've received some info from IRL friends/family about these two things, and it's all I can do to not laugh right in their faces.

I think >75% of adult chiropractic care is stupid. Although I have seen it work wonders in a select few patients. A chiropractor shared an office with a family doc I rotated with. He tried to fix my migraines by moving the bones in my skull. Um, what? Those fused a LONNNGGG time ago.
I gave DD infant massages before bed as a way to calm her and bond. I wouldn't have taken her to a professional, but it was something I always looked forward to.
@ccip82, I'm so sorry you're not impressed. For the most part, unless you can get private health care, the NHS is average at best. It's great not to have to pay for healthcare but sometimes it can feel substandard. I hope your experience with labour and postnatal is better!!

Thanks, sorry to be such a complainer! I am miserable today suffering from a UTI and the midwife I called told me to drink water and wait to see how I feel tomorrow...
I hate the "help" people offer bc I'm having a baby. It's more of a hindrance than anything. I'm cleaning up after everyone rather than relaxing before tomorrow.
Also, everyone can't wait to visit. Bc of this, I will have 6 days total out of the 4 weeks H took off of work bc of the out of town family members that have to stay with us. I'm not happy about the "helpful" guests.

@MindyBadger1 -- I totally agree. I can't believe how much people are fooled by it, to be quite honest. I had a friend tell me once that a chiropractor cured her aunt (or cousin maybe?) from cancer. I don't even know how to respond to such ridiculous statements. If someone actually believes that, what's the point of trying to continue the conversation?
I hate that my husband goes back to work on Monday and for the rest of my maternity leave I am on my own with LO. I want my help with night shift!!!!!!!! Now when I go back to work in February he will help again but for the next 5 weeks I selfishly hope he sleeps like shit I know I am a horrible person

I have this same problem with people who push alternate medicines. My in-laws are big fans and regularly sent me e-mail messages detailing how my father can cure his terminal cancer by drinking lemon juice and baking soda. My in-laws would have been first in line at the snake oil stand.
Similarly, we went through a version to try to turn our breech baby. I do not think that having a chinese medicine smoked across my toes will succeed where 3 adults forcefully pushing failed.

My uncle is a chiropractor. He convinces his patients to sue everybody and their grandmothers when they are in car accidents. He also (in the past) got mad at family members that didn't want to use his service and PAY for it.

My son has ptosis of one of his eyelids. It isn't severe, but is noticeable. A friend of mine who works for a chiro commented on one of his photos when he was 5 or so months old that I should take him to a chiro to get adjusted because it'd help his eyelid. Uh. No. It won't.
Sure, it feels nice to get your back cracked, but to be honest, I think chiropractors are quacks, even though some people swear by them. And no way would I *ever* take my kid (even though people claim they don't get adjusted the same way adults do).

@peanutmuse My son was born with torticollis, and a chiropractor corrected it. Much faster and easier on him than physical therapy also. I wouldn't take a baby in for just an adjustment though.

@ccip82 - complain away, it's what we're all here for
I think that people who buy the expensive hands free pumping bra without even trying the hair tie method are crazy and just like spending money.
@sugarland726 - oh that's totally an UO in my book! I tried the har tie method, I even cut up an old sports bra to try that and they were both bad - I had to keep readjusting things, holding things, etc. and it made working impossible. Then I sucked it up and bought a hand's free bra and it was glorious!
My UO is that I find posed studio family portraits creepy. Especially if they are hanging on the wall (vs. in an album, etc.)
@megs12914 they stay in better if you tuck the testicles in there too. I've been peed/leaked on atleast 15 times. Can't wait until the damn umbilical stump comes off
I know this will be wildly unpopular, but I roll my eyes every time I hear or see mention of creating a birth plan. And don't get me started on the people who create these elaborate plans and hand their nurses a virtual book of instructions upon arrival to the hospital. I can't help but think that the nurses all laugh internally when presented with a birth plan. I'm all for making sure you, yourself, and your DH/labor coach/etc. know and understand your preferences going in and are able to communicate them appropriately, but the whole birth process is so unpredictable, I just think spending any amount of time creating a birth plan is a big waste of time.

No, that's totally fine! I said if you didn't even try it since it is cheap, or probably free. I know I've got a million of those ties around my house. If you tried it and it didn't work for you, then find something else that works. But to not even try it? That's bananas to me.

I agree with @Litzo27 in that I also tried all the methods - they all sucked until I got my awesome hands-free pumping bra. It was pure magic. Rocked my world and productivity and happiness improved 100%. Also totally with you @sugarland726 that you should give the cheaper options a try first before running out and spending money. I feel that way about a lot of unnecessary baby-related products (i.e. why should I spend money on baby-sized bath towels - regular ones dry my baby just as well...).

@brideofmar, I have a friend that was due on 12/29 (no baby yet) and I know she typed one up. If I could get my hands on it I would post it for everyone She is very detail oriented...I'm sure it would drive me BSC if I was one of the hospital workers and was presented with it.
I know this will be wildly unpopular, but I roll my eyes every time I hear or see mention of creating a birth plan.
@bridefromafar -- This is actually (a) discussed a lot around here, and (b) a very popular opinion.
@peanutmuse - maybe I've overlooked all the discussions and general board sentiment on the topic because I generally avoid it like the plague. I can't believe the number of IRL people who have asked me if I have a birth plan lately.
I'm just suprised you aren't into chiropractic. I've never met a dancer who didn't love her chiropractor or massage therapist. I'm not saying my chiro will cure cancer or magically make everything better. But he certainly has helped me in many ways.
"I've received some info from IRL friends/family about these two things, and it's all I can do to not laugh right in their faces." This part just makes me think you were trying to insult me/those who do go to a chiropractor.
I didn't insult those who go to a chiropractor for themselves. Certainly, I question its value, but I know some people swear by it -- to each her own.
However, I do think taking an infant or young child to a chiropractor is ridiculous. So yeah, since my opinion that I think what you are doing is ridiculous, I guess you could reasonably be insulted by that. That fact doesn't change how I feel about it, though.
@sugarland726, what is the hair tie method? I haven't heard of this and am interested. I have a hands free bra for pumping that a friend gave me, but I am intrigued! :-?
I don't know if I'm really considered a regular so this might be even more flammable but here goes:
with all these babies being born, I feel like more and more random people are coming out and posting. They're not just posting birth stories; random things too....and I find it annoying.
@esd -- I've noticed a few of them too. There was one today who had posted on other boards, but not really here. But then she offered congrats and other small comments on other discussions today. It almost seems like people like that are trying to create a fake presence so that we won't flame them for drive-by birth stories. I just ignore those ones, personally.
I know this will be wildly unpopular, but I roll my eyes every time I hear or see mention of creating a birth plan.
@bridefromafar -- This is actually (a) discussed a lot around here, and (b) a very popular opinion.
I created a birth plan for exactly 1/3 of my children. And it was only because we were team green with #3. My birth plan basically said "If anyone tells me the sex of the baby besides my husband post-delivery, you will be stabbed."
Perhaps it's an UO, but perhaps not. I love formula! I don't know why mothers are so bananas about EBF, even after they give birth. I've talked to so many new moms lately who complain about how they're constantly nursing their LO's and aren't getting any sleep etc... and when I ask if they've tried a formula feed at night time they proudly announce that they are EBF!
.... Okay. Enjoy your sleepless nights!
And FTR, I am breast feeding, pumping AND formula feeding. I just know I'm not producing enough for both and initially HAD to supplement.. now I like formula feeds... the babies sleep best after them!
I have nothing to contribute except I agree with being skeptical of chiropractors. I have a girl I work with who seems to have to go all the time and it just makes me wonder about them.

Let's back up here. My personal opinion is that chiropractors are quacks. That is just how I feel about it. You certainly can have a different opinion than I have. We disagree on a lot of things.

It worked well.
I had a birth "general idea" and that got shot to hell really fast. My water broke super early and then baby was breech.
Originally, I did not want to know the sex but I caved because DH wanted to know. I am soooo glad I did because I was asleep during my c/s and DH would have known before me and I would have missed the moment. This scenario is part of why I wanted to find out because I knew this was a possibility with my back surgeries.
