I absolutely hate hate hate walking into Babies R Us. It always seems so disorganized and filthy (and busy!!!) so I started registering at Buy Buy Baby. I found though, that Babies R Us actually had a better selection (and some cheaper prices) so I ended up registering at both.
I went with Babies R Us mostly because there are more of those in my area, and I wanted to make it as convenient as possible for those people who preferred going to a brick and mortar store versus buying online.
I WISH we had Buy Buy Baby in Canada because the BRU online registry system is terrible! If I could register at Target in Canada I would have picked there instead. (I love Target, but because they are newer in Canada their online shopping and registry isn't up and running here yet.) Personally, based on the terrible registry system of BRU, go with BBB!
The BRU online system is so much work! If an item is sold out (like, still being sold, but just out of stock temporarily) the system removes it from your registry and puts it at the bottom under "In Store Only" and when it comes back in stock it doesn't move it back. I have to update my list like once a week to fix this, because things that get removed come back in stock (for example, an Avent bottle set, which obviously ARE still sold by BRU, got removed from my registry when they were temporarily out of stock, and then I had to add them back later). It's a really annoying system!
We have both right across the street from each other. I feel like BRU had way more of a selection and the quality of items was slightly better. BBB just didn't' do it for me. I do like that you can use the 20% off coupons there. It will make my travel system cheaper there!
We registered at Buy Buy Baby yesterday and had an amazing experience. The staff was beyond helpful and they had everything we had researched and wanted to try out in the store. We live in NYC, and the NYC store is huge and geared for urban parents-it really helped us become less-overwhelmed with all of the stuff available for baby. When we walked in I almost had a panic attack just over the number of bottle options there were! The sales associates are very very knowledgeable and not pushy. I highly recommend BBB. Also they take Bed Bath and Beyond coupons and price match everything. Good luck!
Buy Buy Baby is an hour away from where most of my friends/family live, so we are registered at Babies R Us. I like BBB a little better because the employees there are very helpful.

Back in the day BBB had a terrible website which made updating and finding products to put on your registry extremely difficult. I think they have since updated that. As a store I much prefer BBB, the selection is absolutely spectacular. Literally everything you could ever need is in there to test. Me personally BRU is just more convenient. 6.0 mi, 12 mins v. 18.1 mi, 21 mins. They both happen to be next door to Target, but BRU also has a Carters Store across the street so they tend to win.
Buy Buy Baby price matches, even online. They take coupons (even competitors I believe). They have a no hassle return policy (I hear BRU has issues in that department) and BBB has a very knowledgable staff. I also found BBB to be much cleaner.
I've been to both, and so far I like the overall feel of BRU better. But, I think BBB has more coupons (which could be good, down the road) as the are affiliated with bed bath & beyond.
You can use the Bed Bath & Beyond coupons at BRU. They just can't be expired. That leveled the playing field for me and since BRU is more convenient for most shower guests, I'll do BRU.
@Glitterlicious - OMG we just registered at BBB in Manhattan on 12/31. The workers were so extremely helpful and informed. We had to split our registry in 2 sections because there was so much stuff to look at so we're going back this Saturday. I think the one drawback about the city is that there is not as much stuff as a BBB in the suburbs.
I think in terms of quality BBB seemed nicer and had higher end products. I will probably end up registering at both because I'm sure there will be things at BRU I cannot find at BBB.
I wrote a pretty lengthy blog post about this since we registered at both if you're interested in reading it (click on the link).
End result was we kept certain things at BBB because BRU doesn't carry them and moved the bulk of our registry over to BRU because they had a great registry deal which, I believe, has been extended to January 31. You get 10% of whatever is spent on your registry back on a gift card 10 weeks after your due date (hello diapers!)
I went with BBB because they carried all the brands and specific items I wanted, and they have more coupons (including Bed Bath &Beyond coupons). Furthermore, the customer service is unparallel. I've always had horrible experiences with BRU when purchasing things for friends off of their registries.
We chose BBB over BRU after several complaints from recent new mom friends about BRU and registry/service issues. As a shopper I really dislike BRU as it seems nothing is where it says it is on the print out. I went to a baby shower recently and me and two other guests ended up with the same gifts (same 3 items) from BRU even though we all used updated registries and shopped on different days. I heard a complaint of mystery items appearing and disappearing for no reason on BRU registries. We also chose Target for those without easy access to our BBB. So far I LOVE BBB and their staff.

This. A lot of people like to shop in person (or last minute) and need to have an actual store to go to. There are only 2 BBB's near us and the closest is about 40 minutes or so away which isn't very convenient, so when we had DS we went to BRU. Plus, I thought it was more organized and less crammed than BBB and had a better selection.

Oh, and Amazon. A good chunk of friends and family members have Amazon Prime, so that's an awesome way for them to shop too.
