horrible sciatic nerve pain

Help!  I'm 19 weeks and For the past two weeks I have been having awful sciatic nerve pain. It has been so bad that at times I can't even walk. To make matters worse Im a hair stylist and am on my feet 40 hour a week and there is days I limp around like I have a stick up my behind.  I don't know what to do as nothing is relieving the pain what so ever. Any one else having this problem and is there anything that helps? I can't afford to lose any time at work :(

Re: horrible sciatic nerve pain

  • My Dr suggested visiting the chiropractors or setting up an appt with physical therapy for mine and I almost did, but then it started to get a bit better in it's own. If it comes back bad though I'll probably give it a go.

  • I started a discussion on this a week or so ago and I got AWESOME stretching suggestions from people. Here's the discussion. Since I've been doing some of the stretches, I have seen a significant improvement. Hope it has some things that help!

  • Are you able to send a link to the discussion it didnt post. And thanks! I can't believe how painful it is :( hope I can get some relief.
  • Oh rats, sorry, it posted on my computer but now that I'm on mobile it's gone. At the bottom, search "Any sciatic pain suggestions" by me, it was the first one that popped up when I did it.

  • How do you know if it's sciatic nerve pain? My lower back is killing me ( mostly on the right side)
  • The link worked for me. Thanks @meredithelese
  • I had sciatica at 10 weeks DD and then at 12 weeks with DS. For each one it lasted the entire pregnancy. It was so painful. With DD I still worked and at times I would collapse when trying to take a step. With DS it was the same...even worse. My OB suggested PT, but it did nothing for me. They had me doing this under water treadmill and then lots of table stretches. I was paying for this treatment weekly and finally gave up bc it wasn't helping. I never found anything that relieved the pain. On NYE I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and I was almost in tears trying to make it the 20 steps to out bathroom. It was miserable. Not looking fw to this.

  • i have this too.  i had sciatic problems before pregnancy, but nothing like the pain i'm in now!
my dr suggested stretching, water, and exercise.  i got a prenatal yoga dvd...that i've yet to crack open...but i have good intentions, i swear.
  • I had sciatic pain before pregnancy and would do the stretches but still have a dull pain all day. However, it has gotten much worse over the past few months. (Especially having to sleep on my side) I went for a free consultation with the chiropractor today. He says it all stems from my hips being off balance combined with pregnancy can be extremely painful. He says it might take a few adjustments (up to a month) but it is curable and totally safe during pregnancy. In other words, it depends where the pain originates from. My pain is right on my inside hip bone and radiates down. Most people feel it lower in the muscle and that is when the stretches really help. My advice is to try the stretches first but don't wait to get it checked if they aren't helping. I hope it feels better soon!
