Pediatrician Recommendations in Arlington/Alexandria area

Hi Ladies,

I'm a FTM and 18 weeks pregnant. I'm starting to look into pediatricians. While I know word of mouth is best, do you have any recommendations in the Arlington/Alexandria area? Thanks!

My 6 month old goes to Children's Medical Associates in Alexandria. We love them! We see Dr. Wallen or Dr. Allard - both are great!

We live in Alexandria and take our daughter to McLean Pediatrics. It's about half an hour away for us but they're a small, attentive office with Saturday hours. I love the nurses and the Peds. Dr Evars, the founder, was at the hospital within 24 hours of the birth and was great at helping me decline unnecessary repeat tests that the hospital Peds wanted to do. They've got a lactation consultant on staff too.

We just started using All Pediatrics and have been very happy so far. We go to the Alexandria office in the Mark Center.

We go to Capital Area Pediatrics in Falls Church, all the doctors there (as well as the NP) are fabulous, and I have never had problems getting an appointment last minute if I need to. I highly recommend them!

We go to All Pediatrics as well and have since DS1 (2.5) was about 3 months old. I really like them. It's very easy to get same day appointments and they are attentive and responsive but not alarmist.

I second Children's Medical Associates. We see Dr. Estabrook most of the time and she is wonderful. The practice is large enough that you can always get an emergency appointment if you need it. Other things I love:

- They have Lactation consultants on staff.
- They have Dr/Nurse phone lines open every morning from 8-8:30 so you can call for a quick phone consultation if you have a question but aren't in need of an appointment.
- They have Saturday and Sunday emergency appointments; saves you from needing to go to urgent care
- If they refer you to the ER, they call ahead for you so that there's no wait when you get there.

My son has been a regular patient there since birth. My daughter passed away while we were still in the hospital, so she was never a patient, but the Drs at CMA still got together in a big staff meeting to go over her reports and see if they could find anything from a pediatric perspective that the hospital doctors may have missed. They also worked with us to schedule and refer my son to specific specialists in the area so we could ensure that he wouldn't develop any similar health complications. They are a great practice with the outlook of an intimate family practice but the resources and convenience of a larger clinic.

Thanks, everyone. Random question - have you found it easier to have your pediatrician closer to LO's daycare or your home?

Our daycare is also closer to our house, but I'd say stick closer to home. Chances are, if your child I'd sick enough to go to the doctor, he/she will be too sick to go to daycare. Most of the time your trips to the ped will start at home.
