Success after IF

Endometriosis and Lupron

Hello all, I was curious if anyone here had been treated for endometriosis with 6 months of Lupron shots for infertility? My husband and I have been TTC for 5 years now. We found out about a year ago by lap I had endometriosis. My OB/GYN wanted me to wait 6 months after the surgery before trying another treatment. Well the 6 months passed and nothing occurred. He then recommended the Lupron injections, I was afraid to try this at first so I made an appointment with a fertility specialist. He reccomended an IUI then IVF if it did not work. I tried the IUI, it did not work as well. My husband and I decided against IVF. When I went for my yearly checkup with my OB he really urged me to give the Lupron a try, so I did. I just had my 4th shot and I'm starting to get anxious....... Please tell me some success stories

Re: Endometriosis and Lupron

  • I don't have endo but I have a friend IRL who does. She did Lupron shots for 6 months and she conceived without interventions while she was waiting to start IVF. I don't know much about endo though so I don't know if it makes a difference where the endo is. Wishing you the best of luck!!!

  • A little late responding, but that is great to know as well! I'm now finished with by Lupron shots. Then did two months on birth control, I just did my first round of Clomid so I'm praying all this will workout. I try to post updates :)
  • I also have endo.  My OB wanted to put me on Lupron however I have been scared to try it because I have heard the side effects can be really awful.

I found it interesting that your OB told you to wait 6mo before trying to conceive after your lap though.  My OB and RE all told me the opposite and wanted me TO get pregnant within 6mo of surgery so that crap didn't have a lot of time to take over again.

I know everyone is different, but we had success with IUI and also unassisted after my lap surgeries.

  • I might have worded that odd. My OB wanted us to TTC right after the sx as well, but if It didn't work within 6 months he wanted to try the Lupron.
  • Hello...lurking over here from PAIF. We tried for almost 4 years to conceive baby #2 before having success. After 18 months, 1 CP, and a failed IUI we switched to an new OB/specialist who was finally able to diagnose me with advanced stage endo during an exploratory lap. The scar tissue was so severe that the doc advised Lupron in hopes it would loosen the adhesions so he could perform a secondary operation before we continued with TTC. Did Lupron for 3 months and received the shots at my docs office. The side effects did suck ( I now know what menopause will be like) but it worked like a charm for us! Second lap was a success and the scar tissue was removed. Our OB wanted to try on our own for a while again so we did for 5 months before deciding to "go all in" and move on to an RE. We decided to try IUI with injectables and were successful after our second attempt. Now less than 2 weeks away from meeting our baby girl!

    Good luck to you!!!

  • That is amazing news! I'm so glad to hear success stories! Congrats on your new arrival!
  • Well I'm getting a bit anxious.... Going on day 30 of my cycle and my period is still MIA. I took a pregnancy test on day 27, it was negative. But I'm not quite sure of the timing of my cycle since I've been on all these meds, not sure what to think. The pregnancy test was a target brand, if that makes any difference, and it was not a early morning sample. I kind of want to test again, but don't want to get my hopes up.....
  • Well, kinda answered my own question about the store brand tests after reading an article, they are not as sensitive as other brands. So gonna keep my hopes high and pray :)
  • I hope you get a BFP! I did 6 mos of Lupron because of Endo. I am starting my first IUI round this month. The side effects of Lupron are basically menopause: headaches, moodswings, and hot flashes. It really is glorious...;). I told my DH that he should get a prize for putting up with menopause twice when most men only do once. As far as pain, i have noticed  HUGE difference in my menstrual cramps. They are much less severe and reportedly that using Lupron helps keep the endo at bay so that you won't need surgery as soon as if you just had surgery and went without Lupron. My dr's said that basically endo is chronic and you'll more likely need surgery down the line, but you won't need it as soon as Lupron. I have also spoken to many woman with the same thing and they all got pregnant soon after finishing the Lupron and did everything ot keep their period from coming back such as breast feeding and having kids closer together and when they were done their endo never returned. Best of luck!

  • I know exactly how you feel the hot flashes were the worst for me! Best of luck to you as well! I'm day 31 of my cycle still no period. I go in for a pt on day 35 at my OB. Not sure I want to take another at home, I just don't want to get my hopes up.
  • I had a super mild almost undetectable case of it, after failed IVF cycle my RE did the 3 month Lupron Depot injection in July 2013 - only side effect I really had was dryness/irittability down there - good luck!
  • A little late, but I started my cycle on day 34. I would have went to the doctor the next day for a test. I guess the Clomid can cause this though. Crossing my fingers for this month though.
