I've got a bassinet mattress question.

So I bought this bassinet. It's the Babyletto Bowery from babies r us. I loved it because it was made of wood and really goes well with our bedroom and I wanted something for LO to sleep in next to the bed for the first couple months. There's one problem. The "mattress" that came with it is the flimsiest piece of crap I've ever seen. And I know these things aren't necessarily supposed to be comfy but I feel like he would sink straight to the wood underneath when he lays on it. It's like an inch thick (maybe) and way flimsy. So my question is, there's a bassinet pad that babies r us makes that I like better but it's a tad not long enough to fit on the ends. Is this unsafe? Is it that big of a deal since it's at the ends and I doubt baby can maneuver around that much to get stuck or something in the very beginning? Or should I just stick with what it came with? Thank you for your help with my long question!

  • OR should I try and find a mattress somewhere else that fits better?

  • I'd personally look for something that fits better before settling with the smaller one. If worse comes to worse, you could always have a piece of thick memory foam custom cut to the dimensions you need...we have an antique bassinet hand made by DH's great-grandfather, and nothing commercially available will fit it...we plan to get very dense foam to put in lieu of a mattress.

  • The only thing I can say for the crap mattress is that baby will only weigh a few pounds, so (s)he may not push had enough on it to sink through.

  • @poru the bassinet is amazing. It's really sturdy, well made, and a good size. It's just that dumb mattress. Lol I will definitely look into the link you posted. Thank you ladies for the input!!
  • Thanks for posting this! I have the same problem - got my old bassinet from my mom but the mattress is ancient. I found a good one at babies r' us for $60, they had a few different sizes. Expensive though, so I'm still looking around :)

  • My mom found an organic bassinet mattress for our antique bassinet at Sears, reusing it for DD.
