Moms of Boys Come In!

How in the world do you get the pee to stay in the freakin' diaper? DS wets himself like every time he pees! He gets an outfit change like every time he gets a diaper change, and though he has a lot of clothes, I've already had to do a load of onesies! I've made sure to point his wing-wang downward and whatnot, but nothing seems to help... I don't like him sitting in his own pee! Help!

Re: Moms of Boys Come In!

  • I am using the cloth diapers called gdiapers and we haven't had any problems. I change him at every feeding so that's about 9-10 times a day and I also point his penis down. Maybe he just has a strong stream?
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh my gosh! I thought it was something I was doing wrong or the diapers!! I am sorry I have no advice, but you are not alone!!

  • I've noticed that huggies brand seems to leak more..I then started trying pampers and using the larger size (not newborn) and that seemed to help some too..I was going through the same thing!

As soon as his cord falls off, I'm probably switching to a size up as well... I've been told that the diaper's not tight enough, though I'm pretty sure if the diaper makes indentions it's probably TOO tight... I don't know, hopefully it's just one of those things that works itself out, but every time I had a problem with DD, I moved her up a size, and that usually fixed it.

  • We had leak problems with Huggies and Pampers. We switched to Target and have had luck with those. They just fit hom better. Also, we try to change him every 2 hours, max 3. He pees a lot (mostly formula fed).
  • I have 2 boys. I use pampers, I've found huggies leak all the time. I make sure the diaper is higher in the front, like atleast by the belly button and I have little to no issues. Also make sure when you put on his clothes or onsie on that the diaper didn't fold underneath.
  • We were having this problem, we bumped Sam up from newborn huggies to size 1, no problems since...yet.

  • We didn't have this problem withDS and used Pampers swaddlers. Be sure to flare out the edge of the diaper past the elastic vs keeping it tucked in.

  • I use pampers swaddlers, he was in nb then started to leak through so we started size one, and he is fine, could be he needs to go up to the next size. :)
  • We havent had any problems yet so Im no help. I did almost get a mouth full laat night though lol
  • We are using Pampers Swaddlers and Honest Co diapers. The Huggies diapers we got for gifts leaked and the wipes ripped! I hate Huggies.

  • Mine does the same thing. He leaks up his back, but I'm not sure how. My DH forgets to point it down so I'll be feeding him and get sprayed... Maybe I'll try a bigger size, but my little man is just now nearing 7 lbs...

  • Ahem... You have to make sure their penis is pointing downward when you put the diaper on...otherwise it doesn't matter what kind if diaper you buy...they will always wet everywhere if their wee wee is facing north ;)

Make sure you tuck his little weenie down. The hospital told us this trick. Otherwise if it's up it shoots up and out the top if the diaper. Now... If only mine would stop peeling during a changing... I have not mastered that task yet and get peed in almost every time.

Yup, my LO peed EVERY time I took his old diaper off. What I do now is slowly pull it away and peek, and put it back down immediately when I see him start to pee, then I wait for about 10-20 seconds then I can safely change him!
DS never did that to me! He never peed or pooped or puked on me, lets say LO changed all of that real quick ;)

  • Knock on wood, we haven't had any issues. We have used Honest Co. and Nature Babycare plus Pampers Swaddlers. They all worked, though the Pampers smell horrible when there is pee. Ugh.
  • @katemw you think pampers smell when they get wet? Like what? I haven't noticed, but maybe I have not paid attention either.

  • Any diaper is better than huggies brand. I've actually found I really like some of the store brands better (fit better around the legs, have better tabs, absorb better, etc.). Maybe try a few different brands and a different size to see if that makes a difference. I haven't had any problem with leakage unless we're or and about and he possibly goes a little longer than normal without a diaper change. If he's changed every 3 hours before eating, I find we don't have any issues!

  • We are using pampers swaddlers and havering had this issue at all.
  • I would just try out a few different brands. Different brands work for different babies. Huggies worked best for dd, luvs for ds1, and so far pampers for ds2.

They do smell really gross when they get wet. I didn't notice that as much with the Huggies.
  • Finn is in a size 1 in the Pampers Swaddlers and he's almost 9 lbs. I make sure to point his penis down and we haven't had any problems.

  • We had him in Swaddlers Size Newborn, and we just switched to Luvs Newborn, and we haven't had any more problems. I guess it really was just the brand, which is crazy because I loved Swaddlers with DD.

  • Lol it happened the first few times when i was trying to be all gentle and not make diaper tight. Now i tighten those suckers and it has not happened again

This! My boys couldn't wear Huggies. Pampers were the best IMO and maybe you need to go to size 1's if you haven't already.

  • Try a different brand, they all fit differently. I like target brand over even the more expensive diapers. Also maybe go up a size. I have always had to go up sizes before hitting the limit on weight they have.

I have two baby boys and for the first couple weeks we had the same problem! But my pedi told me to get little gauze pads that are little squares (like 2x2 size) and just put a little dot of Vaseline on it and stick it on their wee wees. The Vaseline makes it stick and it will soak up the pee before it can leak out! Worked really well!!
Edited: Pointing it down works too but we mainly used the gauze pads while the circumsicion was healing Because you couldn't point it down. But they do work pretty well!

Yeah, the gauze definitely stopped it from happening while his circumcision was healing, but we just switched to Luvs Newborn, and the leaks have almost completely stopped. Every baby is truly different down to the diapers, I guess! LOL
