New Year's plans?

Admit I'm feeling a little bummed out about New Years this year. We have two potential parties to attend in Brooklyn (which means both require either difficulty finding a cab or a long subway ride home). The thought of staying awake until midnight and not even having a glass of champagne to get me through just sounds exhausting and so not worth it, and I'd so much rather sit on the couch in my pjs but don't want to disappoint DH.

What are other people's fun and/or not so fun plans?

Re: New Year's plans?

  • One of my friends is throwing a fancy dinner party, so we're going to go to that.  I hope i can make it to midnight.  I was able to stay up until 1am for a girl's night right after my BFP without drinking, so I hope I'm up for it tomorrow night.

The not fun part is the fake drinking.  I'm going to try out the carrying around a glass of wine thing and pouring some down the sink in the bathroom, paired with making myself my own "mixed" drinks.

  • Last New Year's Eve I watched the ball drop from my L&D bed, so this New Year's Day I'm celebrating DS turning 1!!!

My days of boozing it up on New Year's Eve are probably over for quite a while, because I'll have to be able to function enough to throw a birthday party the next day, lol.
  • We usually host a huge party at our place but this year im being lazy and hosting a pajama party pot luck and invited a hanful of people. We will see how this goes since my phone has been blowing up all weekend asking if we are having a party. Im prepared to have doors locked and lights off downstairs if need be. Now i really feel like an old lady.

  • I was in my first trimester with my daughter during NYE 2010, and I was passed out by 9. Fun. This time we know what to expect. We are having a BBQ on our terrace and watching fireworks from there. My daughter and I can go to bed early and everyone else can have their fun. The beauty of a roof top terrace, nobody needs to enter my home. :)

  • We are going to the Bruins/Islanders game in Boston. The Bruins are my team and the Islanders are DH's team, always fun to watch them go head to head. I am also looking forward to sleeping during the car ride there and back. :)

  • We were supposed to go to a party but my m/s is worse at night and the thought of being around that many people and having to avoid drinks all night sounds like more than I want to handle. I think it will be sparkling grape juice and bed for me.
  • I'm hoping to be in bed by 12. DS gets up early so staying up late is not fun for me.
  • We have plans to go to our friends' house - they are having about 30 people or so. Honestly I'm not looking forward to it...I'd much rather stay home this year. I know I'll have a hard time staying awake, plus nobody knows I'm pregnant so I'll be covering the fact I'm not drinking, plus...I'll end up driving home which I hate.

  • This will be my first NYE not in NYC in about 7 or 8 years.  My husband and I were confused about what non-East coasters do... do they replay the ball being dropped?  Anyway, I think I'll take advantage of being 2 hours behind east coast this year and watch the ball drop at 10... then go to bed.

  • DH and I are not big NYE people so we will watch the ball drop from the couch. Which likely means I'll be asleep much before midnight. I feel the worst in the evenings so it will be a pretty lame night.

  • I have been planning a quiet evening on the couch, not sure what DH is planning. Guess we should discuss! Usually we go to our friends' house, but the thought of hanging out with a bunch of drunk people doesn't sound appealing right now.

  • There is a Noon Year's Eve event for kids we are going to in Palm Beach with DD and our niece and nephew. They do a count down to noon, give out hats and fun stuff and toast with sparking grape juice, we will be in bed by 9-10pm. We won't miss a beat though bc they light off fireworks in our neighborhood at midnight. Lol. So we will know when it's 2014.

  • I'm supposed to go in to NYC (we're visiting NY for a week from Los Angeles) to a friend's party but I have no desire to deal with the LIRR. It's just going to be full of drunk people when I'm so sober and I'm worried about having to stand the whole time or having someone fall into me. I'm probably being super paranoid but I might send DH in without me and go out for Chinese with my mom.
  • I am currently visiting my grandparents in France. We will be watching crazy hooligans from the 17th floor of my grandparents' apartment shoot off fireworks. It's the same way DH and I have spent our NYE since we've been engaged. It will be strange to not be totally shit-faced, however...

  • We are going our to dinner with 2 other couples and then out to a bar I guess after...not really my first choice but I don't think it'll be too bad hopefully.  Planning to get some of my own non alcoholic cocktails and hopefully some sparkling juice at midnight!

  • We're leaving for a week of vacation tomorrow so we'll spend NYE at my aunt and uncle's house in SoCal, probably asleep. I hope we will arrive before the drunks hit the road (our plane lands at 6pm and their house is ~an hour away). Just a little socializing with family, then hopefully an early night.
  • I'll be hanging out with my college friends and spending the night there. They aren't heavy drinkers these days so it should be fun to catch up without being too crazy. I think I'm going to spill the beans about my pregnancy to them so that will be exciting. It's still early but I know they'd be supportive if something happened and I don't get to see them too often so it's a nice opportunity to tell them. Looking forward to it!

  • My plans fall under the 'not-so-fun' category, I'm afraid. My MIL is celebrating Christmas at her house on New Year's because she worked on Christmas, but she very recently had a huge dramatic falling out with her sister (the police were called...) so the family is kind of split down the middle. Should be interesting at least. We were going to tell MIL about the pregnancy but with all the other drama now I don't even want to...

Jealous of y'all with fun New Year's plans AND the boring ones at home on the couch, haha!

We were going to bk from midtown for an apt party as well, until we found out about the Uber prices! Staying local, hoping my fake drinking skills continue to work!
  • This was my first year to EVER get off new years since being able to drink.. so, I was making a big deal of it that I couldn't wait to celebrate it big. Now, I have to fake drink to not get people suspicious. I'm much more thrilled to celebrate a baby than new years but itll be hard since we're not ready to tell yet.
  • My parents always have a party for family with good food and fun games. No drinking so there is no needing to hide that. It is usually pretty fun.

  • We've been in NYC since Dec 23 and are leaving Jan 1 - all this planned last Feb before we'd fully decided when to start trying! Now that I'll be 8w during NYE, methinks we'll wander around NYC a bit to check stuff out, then crash at the hotel lol. Totally not we'd originally planned, but it sounds so awesome now!

  • Our original plan was just to stay home and have a couple of beers and watch all the different celebrations on TV.  We are still doing the staying home part, but DH will be the only one partaking in the adult beverages.  I'll be drinking sparkling cider.

That is, if I can stay up until midnight.

  • We're having some friends over for a party. It was planned before I even knew I was pregnant, so I just figured we would stay the course.  I'll be breaking the news to my friends too, so I'm looking forward to that! DH would rather be chilling in our pj's.  I told him he can have his way next year.

I started a thread about this the other day and sadly nothing has changed. We are going to a friend's place in Brooklyn, and DH wants to stay until at least 12.30 if not later. Meanwhile, my dream is to sit on the couch with old episodes of Mad Men and be in bed by 10. Ah well, can't always get what you want!

ETA and doh, I just commented no the thread that I *did* start, I thought this was the new GTKY new year thread. I claim Preggers brain

  • H and I are ordering in Thai food and then eating ice cream from a local place (the best ice cream ever) that I picked up on my way home from work. Then a movie and sparkling grape juice followed promptly by bed! So glad we skipped the party this year!
