Name opinion please!

We're working on names for baby boy and I was thinking I wanted a "normal" name but then the name Toben or Tobin (nickname Toby) popped into my mind. I assumed it was somewhat common/normal but when I googled it turns out it is very rare as a first name. Thoughts on Toben/Tobin?

I think Toby is usually short for Tobias though, if you're looking for other ideas.

Not big on them but if you want something similar my husband's bosses name is Tobias.

Thanks for the input. I love the name Toby but Tobias makes me think of Tobias Fumke on arrested development and I can't do it!

Tobias is actually on our top boy list but we are having a girl so won't be using it. We love Tobias on it's own without a NN ... Tobin is a nice strong name too :-)

I really like Tobin. I've never actually heard of anyone named Tobin before, but if I met one, I wouldn't think of it as an unusual name. I like it better than Tobias.

I think Tobin sounds great and still works well with Toby for a nickname. I do like less common names though. We are naming our son Tobias

My friends husband is Tobin and she calls him Toby. I don't think anyone else calls him that, though. Just a love name. He doesn't have a nickname.

I like the name Tobin.

I prefer Toben to Tobias. It is a very strong name. I'm not a big fan of Toby as a nickname though.

I can't get on board. I'm from Boston and Tobin is the name of a bridge that I really hate to drive on. I like Tobias though.

I really like Tobin depending on your last name. Tobin Smith sounds good but I wouldn't like it with a last name ending in N or too many syllables.

Tobin Bell is the actor that played Jigsaw in the Saw movies. I had to look it up, but I knew I had heard the name Tobin somewhere before. Even though he's a creepy serial killer in those films, I do think Tobin is a cool name.

We love the series The West Wing. So well written. One of the main characters has a name like that. I think it's a strong name. Have you looked up the meaning?
