Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

sleep transition

for the past 18 months i've been singing and rocking our LO to sleep at night and at naps.  i'm due in July and would like to get her to sleep on her own before the baby comes, so we can use a toddler bed with her.  any suggestions on a good transition.  she's got really bad separation anxiety and can cry to the point of gagging.

Re: sleep transition

  • Ok so you're having a baby, dd is 18m, you want to potty train her, transition her to a big girl bed, and her separation anxiety is peaking right now?
I think you are expecting way too much from such a little person. The potty training at such an early age and bed change is going to mess things up for a while, but to throw in a new baby, that's going to be a lot of stress on her.
I think you should choose which one is more important, personally I'd choose the bed, and go with that. Wait for her to adjust and then try potty training.
The separation anxiety will get WAY worse whenever you change something on her. My 7 year old still has his moments, so be sure to be gentle and understanding with her.
