I was terrified to get my epidural with my son. They do give you the numbing shot which did make me jump a little, felt like a bee sting. I was so scared that I would be paralyzed lol. After the numbing shot that tingled a little they did the epidural & all I felt was pressure. I'm tiny, 110lbs tiny and the biggest wimp when it comes to needles, so I understand you being scared. But it's worth it, I promise.
I think whether or not it's worth it is completely subjective and varies from person to person and even labor to labor. Like pp pointed out sometimes they don't even work, and it's not a decision you have to make right now.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I`ve read a lot of birth stories and some moms who`we chosen the epi complain about another problem... They tell that the epi numbed them so they couldn`t push properly and the baby was in fetal distress so the doctors had to use a vacuum, a forceps or even make a C-section...
Personally, I'm opting for a natural birth over an epidural. That's a very personal decision that everyone has to make. I have various reasons for not wanting an epidural that has nothing to do with possible paralysis. I would read about the various birthing options and educate yourself.
Re: Help!? Epidural, yay? Or nay?
Don't be silly. Real heroes don't get medals. They get keys to the city. Didn't you follow San Francisco's Batkid?!
Natural or not, I'll never be as cool as Batkid.
