We don't go out on NYE since having kids b/c we don't live near family, getting a sitter is a huge hassle and we're not really into the NYE scene just the 2 of us, I'd rather get a sitter another night and have a dinner that is either not totally price inflated or not limited in menu...
I'd really like to do something w/ friends even if we went home early (there no way my 2 four yr olds can handle staying up til midnight unless maybe it were on a Thurs or Fri & we'd have time to recover before going back to work) but we haven't lived here long and don't really have many friends locally w/ similar aged kids who don't have all sorts of other friends & family they do things w/ etc...last year we tried to do a get together w/ some neighbors & they had a family emergency at the last minute so we didn't do anything & were in bed by 1030. I suspect it'll be more of the same this year but looking for ideas to make it fun for the kids other than just counting down to midnight early.
Any fun traditions at your house?
Re: NYE with little kids...what do you do?
ETA I decided to look on pinterest and there are some cute things on there too...
This year, I will probably take DS1 over for a little bit while DH stays home with DS2. DS2 is a mess past 8pm, so I would rather him just sleep in his own bed. I also may just stay home and have a quiet evening at home. We shall see.
We have a few invites for parties or to hang out on New Year's Eve, but honestly, we'll probably end up at home, just the 3 of us! And I'm totally fine with it.

We're even more boring - we don't even stay up until midnight
We live in San Diego and LEGOLAND and some of the other attractions have kid-themed NYE events that happen earlier in the evening (like at LEGOLAND they have a "brick drop" at 6 pm). I think when our kids are older we'll try doing something like that. Maybe there are local events like that near you?

We either have people over or put her to bed and have drinks and a nice dinner on our own. I am also not a fan of going out to crowded, overpriced places on NYE.
This year, however, my parents will be here to babysit and we're going to a party at our friend's house. Excited!

Yay on the BF, glad it is going well!
ETA: I take that back. I just looked at the movie list on Redbox and there is only one movie on that whole list I'd want to see (Great Gatsby). Maybe we'll be watching orange is the new black or house of cards instead. Sigh. Am I the only one who thinks that movies in the last couple years have totally sucked?
LO's DC is having a huge NYE party for the adults downstairs and childcare arrangements for the LO's upstairs, so we will do that tonight. We'll probably head back home shortly after midnight.
I'm a little late to hop on this thread, but this was our first year with SS for New Years (last few years have been on BM's days with him). We wanted to do something fun so we had a fondue and appetizers, sparkling apple juice, and celebrated the New Year at 10pm CST. SS is 5y/o and he had a blast. Then DH and I stayed up till midnight to smooch for the actual New Year.
I hope we get to make the fondue/appetizer evening a tradition because it was really enjoyable
