Baby Book Preferences?

So I have been lurking around different threads for a while and I am noticing that many women here are not fans of the "What To Expect" series. I looked up some of the reviews and what I've gathered is it's pretty much designed to scare the snot out of pregnant women? Well I am already half a nut job as it is and I do not want to read something that's going to literally outline (from A-Z) all the horrifying things that could happen to me or my baby. I know that getting educated about my pregnancy will be the best way to calm my anxieties, but not if every other page is filled with fear mongering.

I was also looking at the Mayo Clinic book, but I wanted to see what you all are reading/ would suggest. Thanks in advance!

Re: Baby Book Preferences?

  • I have been filling out "The Belly Book" check it out on amazon
  • Loading the player...
  • I flipped through What to Expect here and there, and a few other books, too, but mostly did most of my learning through my own research online, reading material given to me by my doctor, and asking the ladies on my BMB.
  • Do you mean for reading about pregnancy, or documenting your pregnancy?

    For reading about, I like "Expecting 411". The Mayo Clinic book is good, too.
    Well I meant for info about pregnancy, but now that you mentioned it, I wouldn't mind hearing recommendations for either/both. I am using a pregnancy journal app on my phone, it's okay but I heard if your phone breaks you lose everything!

  • I liked Your pregnancy week-by-week. Hated What to Expect. I wish I had done the exercises they suggested though. I was crazy out of shape by the time I delivered.

  • Pregnancy Day by Day is the best pregnancy book I've come across! It includes pictures of baby and outlines development each day! It's so fun to see what baby is up to in there each day. Also gives great info. Perfect for first time mom like me
  • I also didn't buy What to Expect because I thought it would freak me out. Instead I chose the Mayo book which I really like. It's informative, easy to read, and I can even get the DH to read! ;)
    <Pregnancy Ticker>
  • My first pregnancy I chose what to expect. This time I bought pregnancy day by day because DS is curious about the baby and I thought having him see the baby developing would be cool.
  • Any of the Dr. Sears' books. I'm reading The Healthy Pregnancy Book right now, and plan on reading the Birth Book and The Baby Book next (although I'm a TTM, it's still a lot of interesting reading!).  I'm a natural deliverer, so I also recommend Ina May Gaskin :)
