Threatened mc :(

I went into the er this morning with spotting and cramps. The baby looks really good but I have a moderate subchronic hemmorage.. I'm really scared :( there's nothing they can do or for me to do except wait and see. Anyone have experience with this?

I'm under the impression that SCHs usually resolve themselves. The chance of loss due to that is very low according to the googling I've done. Here is an article: link

I'd also like to add that the dr didn't have the best bedside manner and sounded super grave when telling me this news -_- . Thanks for the link, I've been googling too which has been reassuring (for a change).

  • FWIW I am a nurse in an OB office. SCH are pretty common and usually resolve without any issue other than the red vaginal bleeding that worries the heck out of the patient.

    Very reassuring, thank you!!

I have one currently and was never told that it even raised my chance if miscarriage. I was told to be on pelvic rest though till it resolves (no lifting, no sex, no heavy cleaning, etc). Good luck!

This doc had little to no advice for me so I'm just gonna piggyback on your drs advice and take it easy. The hardest part is my son is 30lbs! Thank god I'm with family right now but it's gonna be rough when we head back home in a few days. I do have an appt on thurs with my ob so fingers crossed for some more reassurance.

  • I was actually diagnosed with this last night in the ER too, and I have a small SCH too.  I'm not too worried because although they said it increases the likelihood of miscarriage a little, they told me not to stress.

I'm am supposed to report in on Monday to my OB and I'm not sure what that will lead to: another appointment, u/s, etc., but if you do the same that will help ease your mind.  Remember that an ER doc usually only sees the worst of these situations, but the OB sees a lot more patients who have no further issue past the spotting that lead to the diagnosis.  So, go with their reaction, not the ER docs.

  • I have one as well. Try not to worry too much. I know it's scary to see spotting, but it should resolve on it's own soon.

  • I'm glad to see this thread.  I too was in the ER this weekend with a threatened miscarriage.  I had lots of red blood all day Saturday.  Not spotting, extreme bleeding with clots.  I was sure I had lost the baby.

Well after 2 u/s it looks like we still have a strong baby and a small SCH.  They assume it was lifting and carrying my 30lb toddler that caused it.  I'm taking it easy for a week and not lifting her as much as I can.

  • No experience, but best of luck. I hope it resolves itself quickly!
