Childcare rates

Wondering what the rate is for Childcare. I am going back to work on the 6th and have family members taking care of LO while I'm at work. My sister in law will be watching DD two mornings a week. I want to pay her a fair amount, but do not know what babysitters or Childcare costs to compare to. Grandparents will be watching DD the rest of the time I'm at work and they will not accept any payment, so it's just the SIL I'm trying to figure out how much. She has told me whatever we think is fair is good with her.

Re: Childcare rates

  • I'm in the Kansas City metro area....I was thinking $100 a week which would work out to $10 an hr. wasn't sure if that was remotely close to a fair rate or if I'm completely off base.

  • When I babysat for a full work day they would pay me $30. I felt like it was completely fair because they fed me lunch.

  • LO is going to in home care and it's $180 a week for full time, I think $100 a week is fair if it's only 10 hours!
  • Avg around here (Chicago) for FT infant care is $1500-$2200/month.

I can confirm, the suburbs are close to this as well depending on where you live.

That can really depend on your area. I live in upstate NY and on average I'd say $185 a week for full time for this area. Some areas are well over $200.

I'm in upstate ny as well and found the prices about the same.

  • South central PA & my daycare I used to work at was $200 week per infant. I'm paying someone $25/day that Callie is there. That's all she as asked for :)

  • My mom watched DD1 full time as an infant and we paid her $200 a week (4-5 days a week). I'd say $40-$50 a day is reasonable for a family member.

Holy shit balls. I'm paying $125 a week for independent child care and I thought that was steep (but worth it not to take LO to daycare).
  • I'm in NY about 45 min from NYC and the rates here for a day care center range from $1200-$1800 per month for an infant full time!! And I have 2 babies!!! Lol!

  • The preschool I just worked at in Brandon, Fl was 190 a week and it was one of the cheaper prices in the area. Infant care is a hefty fee.

I pay £36 a day, so....$60 a day? That works out to $300 a week for private nursery, if I were to send DS1 every day, which I don't. It's made more affordable by the early education funding, we get 15 hours a week to use as we want. Still can't afford to work full time, since that would double with two kids to think about.

I'm in the London suburbs, though. Everything is expensive here.

  • I used to be a nanny and where I have nannied and also where I currently live no reputable nanny would have worked for less than 13/hr. I worked 3 days a week, 9 hr days and made close to 400.
  • The daycare where my lo is going is $55 a day or $210 a week. In CT it varies though, two towns from where I work it's $95 a day! Omg makes me want to open a daycare center!
  • We're near Boston and pay $1,700/month for 5 days a week of up to 10 hour days.
  • I agree with the people who say it really depends on your location and the type of care.  I live in upstate NY and it's pretty cheap at approximately $30 per day.  A friend of ours lives closer to NYC and it's about $550 per week.
