Tips for NIP without a cover

Not that I blame her, but LO is not loving nursing under a cover in the tropics. I'm comfy NIP with a cover but haven't done it without yet. I usually wear just a nursing tank, though sometimes I wear a second shirt on top to pull up. Because my letdown is really strong, LO frequently has to latch and unlatch a few times when getting started. The only carrier we have is a soft structured carrier, a Boba 3G, so I don't think nursing in it is possible. Any general or specific suggestions for NIP without a cover? I know there's nothing wrong with showing whatever while getting LO fed, but my personal preference is to be a little more discreet. Thanks for any help :)

The infinity nursing scarf idea is good! You could just put it on right before you nurse. I use cardigans and just cover up the extra boobage, I have small breast though and so it's pretty easy, if you have larger breasts that may not work as well.

ETA: a cardigan also may not work in the heat lol.

  • Agree with what @sleepy33 said. Since you are in the tropics why not try a tank over your nursing tank so you have some more coverage. It's the same concept as a long sleeve top and I'll do that during the summer. I would also unbuckle the nursing tank or bra and pull it down before you pull the other shirt up and then latch kind of bent over with the top shirt draping a bit over her head. Once she's latched you can straighten up and reposition.

Also, her head will really block most everything even if she unlatches unless someone is right on top of you.

I think confidence is key as well because it will just look like you're holding your baby.

  • I always where a tank to keep my fat in, so yeah. I pull my shirt up and put a burp cloth over me. I get him latch, pull my shirt to cover my mega boob and put the burp cloth over my boob.

  • I always have two shirts on--a camisole and a regular shirt. I pull the cami below my boob. Pull he top shirt up. I don't show boob until LO is in place ready to go. The. I pull the top shirt up just enough for LO to be able to latch. Her head covers any exposed nip. Even if she latches and unlatches. You would have to be hovering over me to see anything. If I need to burp her, I just pull the top shirt down until I have her in place again.

And FYI because this was brought up before: I'm a size H. So this technique is not just for smaller chested women.
  • Thanks to all! I'm glad to hear how others make it work, and it gives me confidence to try it myself. Maybe I'll start by using a cover til she's latched and then remove it, then work up my confidence to latch without the cover too. Thanks ladies!
