Laying on my belly

I can't help it. I love laying on my belly. It doesn't hurt the baby right unless it's uncomfortable?

Re: Laying on my belly

  • I hope not, I've never heard not to!

  • Yup I asked my doctor about this last time, and as long as you are comfortable, your baby is fine.  I slept on my belly for a while last time around (with one leg propped up once I was in second trimester).  The same goes for when you should switch from back to side.

  • Your body will let you know when it's time to change positions. I'm a stomach sleeper as well, and I'm still comfortable, so I'll keep sleeping that way. I had to change positions around 18-19 weeks.

  • Still sleeping on my stomach as well.  I do find that I move more often to my side through the night, but that's how I prefer to fall asleep.  I also prop my leg up on a pillow and that helps.  I'm going to be sad when I can't sleep on my stomach anymore.  The past few nights I feel like I'm getting close to that point :(

  • I sleep on my stomach with my knee bent up, pretty much level with my rib cage, so I'm not directly on my stomach, more so half way and its still comfy. But I doubt I'll still be sleeping on my belly still by 17wks because I'll be 15wks on Monday and my belly "popped" more than it already was. I look like I'm 20wks haha. Almost time to get maternity clothes. I'm running out of clothes that fit and I already gave mine away from 2.5yrs ago because I didn't think I could have anymore children. Time for maternity clothes shopping :)
  • I am a stomach sleeper as well! I always prop one leg up on a pillow. Its still comfortable for me so I don't see a problem.

  • Stomach is still ok for me. However whenever I wake up lying on my back my left arm is also numb. Weird.

My arms go numb too! Must be all the blood flow to the uterus.

  • Still sleeping on mine :)
  • It became uncomfortable for me really early, like 9 weeks. Wtf.

  • I start out sleeping on my side but always end up on my stomach. If I sleep on my back for too long I'll wake up with a sore back.

  • I still sleep on my stomach but I put my knee up to the side. I start on my side but always wake up on my stomach. I figure my body will know when it has to stay on it's side.

  • You're fine! When you shouldn't do it--you won't be able to. No worries! :) Your body will tell you.

My husband got me this for Xmas (Amazon). It's been glorious. I did catch him napping in last week. That won't happen again.
  • I got the bump nest pillow. It's the best $80 I've ever spent. I think it's the best sleep also. It's soooooo comfy.

    Me too!!!
  • I got off my stomach around 10 weeks, it started to become uncomfortable. I sleep on my sides most of the night til my hips start hurting, but I actually like sleeping on my back. But don't you have to stop laying on your back around 16 weeks? (which I am today) I just like to lay with my hands on my bump at night, I don't know why it's so comforting. But I definitely miss my tummy time! LOL!

  • I keep a pillow thats supportive in front and behind me when I lay on my side, my arms go numb but I just have to shift alternating sides I lay on. The pillows cushion me and mimic me laying flat on my back/stomach. Must say though I felt him kick me when I woke up on my stomach and didn't realize the pillows had shifted. Ordering the bump nest body pillow within the next week.

  • Any thoughts on laying on your back? When do I quit this? I wake up on my back constantly and hear it's not good. Is it also when your body won't do it any more because of discomfort?

  • @MrsRahl I have seen 16 weeks, 20 weeks, and the start of the third tri as a time to stop sleeping on your back. Who knows which one is correct!

  • I like to sleep on back as well and use a small pillow as a wedge under one of my hips so that I am not "flat" - this is similar to how they position patients who need to be on their back for a long time in surgery. The research I've read recently though seems to indicate that the whole "don't sleep on your back" thing may be overstated and may not really matter as long as you are comfortable...

I've been only able to fall asleep if I'm on my back and put a pillow under my knees. I also sleep propped up so I almost look like I'm laying on a recliner. In fact I've considered sleeping in the recliner lol. So I guess I'm not flat on my back.
