nursery color help

edited December 2013 in May 2014 Moms
DH and I have settled on a theme for the baby's room, but I cannot figure out a color scheme (paint, etc), and would love some input. We are going with Carter's Jungle Jill theme: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11125013&cp=&parentPage=search

Any color ideas besides the pink and lime green that would look good with this? I don't really want to be blinded every time I go into DD's room. :)

  • Maybe the yellow in the giraffe or the stripes of the zebra? I can't see the coloring very well.

  • I'm mobile and can't zoom in on the pic but I would paint the room the color of the spots on the giraffe (or potentially a lighter shade of that color).

  • I would not want walls in any of the colors in that. It's cute, but I think all those colors are very bold. I would just do a neutral color on the wall. I like the idea of a lighter shade of the giraffe color. Another option would be a chair rail in the middle of the wall, and do a darker neutral color on the bottom, and a light pink or light green on top.

  • I'd use the less-bold colors of the giraffe, and you could always accent with the brighter colors. A more neutral wall color might be easier to redecorate later as well.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I agree with @mrspopsicle, maybe a lighter brown.

  • I'd go neutral like the PPs said. Maybe a khaki type color.

  • We are also going jungle theme but with an emphasis on giraffes and this is our room with one accent wall. The base color is a neutral yellow and then a soft brown for the spots. We love how it turned out.

    That wall is awesome!! Wow!!!

  • There is nothing worse than having to change wall color once LO grows out of his/her nursery theme. Stick with a neutral or a pale yellow that will grow along with their change in style.
  • You could also do a dark, dusky mauve. Pink, but not blinding pink. lol

Thanks! DH and I are both very much DIY people and I love crafty projects. We know we will be painting again when our son has outgrown the giraffe print but this will allow our other decor to be more neutral.
We got really lucky and found the paint cans on clearance at Lowe's. They were only $5 per gallon - there was a whole table of cans that were never picked up.
  • Agree with pp a light tan khaki color.
  • I think a soft beige would flatter that set. I'd be hesitant to use any of the other colors (the pink, green, etc) because they seem super bright/but it also depends on the lighting in your child's room. We went with Benjamin Moore Wales Green on 3 walls and because there's one window in the room, it doesn't get a huge amount of light so it isn't blindingly green.

  • If personally stick with cream or something lighter, so the focus is on the cute prints, not the bright walls. But this is coming from someone who painted every single room in my house the same beige color. I guess I'm not one for color!

  • I'd do a very pretty soft taupe colour to keep it neutral and let the colours of the bedding show off a bit

  • Do a neutral beige or light tan of some sort.
That green on the walls was too bright, but you can definitely use a lighter shade of green that would still work. Like a light muted green.

Love the bedding. It's in the running for us if we are having a girl.
  • What about a nice green. It could be like leaves in the background it is supposed to be a very restful color.

  • I have to agree with all the other ladies neutral is best. I'm learning my lesson the hard way, with my boys sharing a room. As a toddler we had lightning McQueen themed and bright blue walls. Well now he's got red simple truck bedding from pottery barn(use to have a car bed and McQueen bedding). Then the other boy who will be sharing the room will be using his old bedding for awhile (green monkey) well bright blue isn't going to work so now I have to sand and repaint /facepalm
