Nursery Ideas... Need your opions ladies please!!!

Morning! So I have a general theme I would like to go with for our nursery. I love love love the idea of the purple, white & black damask for her nursery (purple happens to be my favorite color & DH does not want pink). so I really like the look of this! I have found lots of ideas & inspiration on Pinterest & just looking at google images... but im torn on what color furniture to do. My initial thought was black... to tie the black into the room.... but now I am thinking that may be too dark & I may be better off with white furniture. her room is not huge so I am scared that the black may make it feel smaller. I will just be doing a dresser & crib.

I would love you thoughts ladies! im torn & its time to start planning... especially while there are some great sales going on! thanks!

  • I say go with white but I may be biased since I just bought an entirely white nursery set myself. :)

  • I'm also torn between black and white furnature! Here's my thought process... White I see getting soiled with crayon, fingerprints, etc. I think for your theme black would work great. I also love the look of classy white furnature for a girls room so I am still torn if we find out tomorrow baby is a girl. We will be going black for a boy for sure. It's a tough call since both would look beautiful in your theme! Good luck!
  • I don't love damask. But I think the three color options could be cute. I didn't see a link in your text to a picture of what you're looking at, but I found these nurseries online. The white furniture with maybe a black chair or accent rug would be super cute if you're doing dark walls. If it's light walls, I'd go with black furniture.

  • I'd go white, but I like white furniture :)

  • I LOVE white furniture for a girls room! I like what another poster said about tying in the black with a rug or other accents.
  • White will make the room not feel as small, it's also a bit more versatile for later use.

  • I like black and think that it will tie in the room nicely. But just like others here who bought white nursery items already. I'm buying black. So We're biased

Look for furniture that is just a biy shiny white, I have found that it is really easy to wipe down. My aunt has a white kitchen and she lets her grandchildren go crazy in it. It has a small shine and all she has to do is wipe it down and it looks brand new.

  • I think it depends what shade of purple you go for. DD's room is painted a faint barely there purple with one accent wall with stripes in 4 shades of purple taken from the curtains. The curtains and bedding are darker purple and some of the stripes are very dark purple. We went with antique white furniture. If you have light purple you could get away with black furniture, but I'd prefer white to brighten things up.

  • I'd go with white

  • For me it would depend on whether or not I would plan to use this furniture again for my next child.  If so, I would go with black.  If I had a boy next I probably wouldn't want him to have white furniture, but that's just me.  If you don't plan to reuse for the next baby then go with white.

  • Consider manufacturers doing sort of a grey wash on the wood, sort of antiquey looking. That could be a good alternative to black or white.
  • I'm a big fan of white as well and it will probably be better than black as far as not showing chips, scratches, dents etc. sounds like it will be super cute, love damask!
  • For what you're doing, I agree white with black accents.  And I am not biased, I haven't gone with white furniture either time..lol.  I just think with your theme (Which I love) white will be best.

  • White furniture over many years can sometimes yellow, so I've avoided it. But I guess you could always strip and repaint in the long run.

I would go with white for sure.

  • White baby furniture is usually pretty heftily varnished and easy to clean.  I think it can work with either gender.

Some advice I got from the paint clerk before we painted my son's room was to use at least semi-gloss (preferably gloss) paint for nurseries.  Normally the paint is used in bathrooms, but he says nurseries take much more abuse than a typical bathroom wall, and the gloss will hold up and be easy to clean.  2.5 years in, and I can say he was absolutely right.

  • White.

  • I would 100% go with white. DD has white furniture. It has been very easy to keep clean. We have black pieces in other rooms and they show ever speck of dust, every ding, and every little mark. It drives me nuts.
