a/s tech not so good.....

We had our a/s on the 24th and lets just say our tech was less then enthusiastic about anything :/he didn't talk to us. Wouldn't tell me anything :( so here I sit worried that something is wrong. I saw the baby but it wasn't very active during the test :( It did clap it's hands for us. I am just upset because I took my 16 y/o soon to be step daughter with me and it was her first time ever seeing an ultrasound. Babies heartbeat is still 146 and we are still team green though. I think even if I would have wanted to find out I would not have let that man tell me...Sorry just venting.....

Re: a/s tech not so good.....

  • They can't tell you if something is wrong with the baby. Our tech didn't say much either but it was nice just to have a quiet moment watching our baby move around in there.

    When is your doc appointment?

  • Not till the 18th of Jan. He just didnt speak at all. With my son they at least said here is the ....and thats an arm...see the heart...He was just cold about it all. He even used cold gel when there was warm ones in the warmer....I am just sad because I know I wont get to see baby again till the end. Just wish he would have been more verbal about what we where seeing.....
  • I'm sorry you didn't have a great scan. I agree they aren't allowed to tell you anything, but he could've at least explained what you were seeing and such.

  • Yeah I think k he should have at least explained what he was doing at least

    It's a BOY

  • My tech said after they go over the measurements they send it to a radiologist to do a full report. No news is probably good news.
  • I think also too they are very concentrated but it's all not so reassuring when they are so quiet. I don't know how they read those things honestly so it would take a lot of focus!
  • The tech with my son was just so happy and chatty. It was like she loved telling people what they where seeing. This guy I think hated his job.

Sounds like it. Sorry to hear this. He sounds like he was a serious debbie downer...

  • We just had mine on the 24th and she hardly talked either. But that's what I expected. The tech isn't really the one deciding if stuff is right, she takes the photos/measurements and then the doctor looks at them, so it's really best for her not to say if anything is good or bad because it's not her place. It does suck to wait for the results though!! I'll be waiting all week.

  • I would have gone bad shit if my tech didnt talk. She went over each measurement she was doing and explained things when I had questions. I understood that she wasn't the dr and she told me before it started that the dr would be in immediately after to review the report. I'm sorry yours has this silent policy. It is after all your baby and your body I think you have a right to at least here what he was doing while doing it!
  • My tech can't tell you anything, other than there is an arm. She told us that at the beginning of the appointment, so at least we understood why she was quiet.

At my sons appointment my DH and I clearly saw his boy parts. We both got excited and screamed out. Again she said nothing when we asked. The dr came in and it was a boy.

Both appt (DS1 and for this LO) they were nice, but can't say a word.

  • That would be really hard. Every u/s I've had, including a non pregnancy one my gallbladder, they told me what they were doing. However, a quiet tech wouldn't upset me. Think about what else he might have seen that day. Maybe an appt before you was really bad.

  • My tech was also very quiet initially bit attempted to make small talk towards the end. She did note that she was having a hard time getting one of the measurments. So I wasn't shocked when I got a call that I needed to come back in two weeks...I just hope the next two weeks doesn't drag along.

  • I hate when techs are antisocial! I've had a few sour pusses myself. I feel like they are in the "I do this everyday category" but don't realize, we don't! It's a special moment for us and sometimes they need to realize that.
  • That's a shame he did that. My tech said things like "the heart looks good, baby is measuring on schedule" etc. they should say something and give an explanation while doing it.
  • Sorry you had a cruddy experience! The first couple u/s with this one I had pretty quiet techs too and it drove me crazy. Now luckily I got the good tech who I loved with DD. I can just tell she loves her job and feels like each baby she sees is a new and different one.

There are those unfun techs out there though, so I wouldn't let it color you thoughts on the u/s.

  • Thanks everyone. I wasnt expecting a play by play with the tech but a little conversation would have been nice. I have not heard anything yet so I am hoping no news is good news at this point.
