So baby is one week I old and is constantly eating since around 8 last night, I have been trying to keep him sastisfy but I feel like I'm feeding him too much. Anyone elses 1 week old go through a growth spurt? How did you deal with the feedings.
Well you can overfeed a formula fed baby, but you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby (your body only makes so much milk at a time, when it's out baby is just sucking for comfort). Anyway, there is a growth spurt between 7-10 days. In my experience they usually last a couple of days. It seems like the baby doesn't want to be put down, wants to eat constantly, and wakes more often to nurse and just generally doesnt seem satisified. The best thing you can do is allow him to nurse as much as possible. It will signal your body to produce more milk to meet his growing demands.
Ari is 1 week today and she nursed for 45 minutes then took an entire 2 ozs of formula because I had no pumped milk on hand and she was still fussing. She and I then proceeded to take a 3 hour nap on the couch (under the watchful eye of DH). At her next feeding, 4 hours later, she was satisfied with 25 minutes of nursing. So I don't know if it is a growth spurt or what, just eating what she wants I guess! I pumped a full 5 ozs at her next feeding (we're back home, she's still in NICU) so I felt like a boss. Knockers are getting the baby memo!
I'm in the middle of a growth spurt/cluster feed session. He's been wanting to nurse every hour, and he's currently an hour and 20 minutes into a session! I just want to go to sleeeep! He was two weeks old this past Monday...
Thinking LO is starting to go through one now. She is 6 days old today. I've been nursing over an hour and she still seems to want more...which is actually kinda fine b/c my boobs feel like they are going to explode!
