High-Risk Pregnancy

Need some advice

I'll give a quick run down.
 28 weeks 4 days with mo/di twins
Cervix is at 2.4 cm  30% effaced and I'm 2 cm dilated
yesterday I was having several small contractions that were being picked up on the monitor.
I requested a FFN test and it came back positive. I know that isn't really reliable.
My last 3 deliveries were very quick 4 hours and less.

My doctor has left it up to me to decide whether or not to go ahead and get the steroid shots or not.
I don't know what to do! He said it only lasts two weeks and it's not something they can keep giving me. I'm scared and confused and walking blind here. I just need some advice or experiences good or bad,  please.
FWIW I want to get the shots but I don't want to jump the gun and get it too early.

Re: Need some advice

  • Get the shots. In case of PTL, its the best thing for your babies.....

  • Glad you got them- I was going to recommend as well

    Lilypie Premature Baby tickers
  • Two of the labor and delivery nurses sat with me after I got my 3rd shot this evening and answered a lot of the questions I had. The tears started flowing when they reassured me the life flight helicopter could be there in 15 minutes to transfer the babies to a more equipped hospital if they were born before 34 weeks. They'll transfer me via helicopter as long as I have adequate time before delivering. It's starting to hit home that this is really happening.  Fingers crossed none of that will be needed!

I would get the shots. If you manage to keep babes in for two more weeks, they will be less in need of the steroid help at 30plus weeks. Best to be safe incase they are born soon. Based on your measurements, you could still be a way away from delivering (I am no doc, but based on what I have read on here). All the best! Keep us updated!!! I am currently 29w and cervix measuring 1.4cm so am going to push for the shots at my next appt.
For most people this is very true, but based on my previous labors and deliveries they said they just don't know what is going to happen. (who does??)  My DD#2 was born going from 0 cm ( I was checked 4 times by 2 different people)  to delivering her on the floor in the hospital room in one hour. The nurse that ran into the room had my discharge papers in her hand because they didn't think I was in labor. They are being extra cautious with me, which I am very grateful for. But again, I could, and hope, I last many more weeks.
