blanket napping PSA-question

So I was reading the post about sleeping with blankets by @wasnotwas, and was so glad to see people have success with this.  My question--is my LO the only baby who intentionally tries to suffocate himself with any type of blanket material?  Whether it is a burp cloth, bib, blanket on the floor, blankie attached to animal, ANYTHING, as soon as he gets his little hands on it he immediately places it over his entire face.  It is terrifying to watch!  I started taking pictures of him doing it and text them to DH during the day labeled as "LO's death attempts".  I figured all babies do this but...maybe not?  He does it in a daredevil kind of way--like once the fabric is covering his face he then starts breathing hard and flailing his arms and kicking his legs, like he is excited.

Re: blanket napping PSA-question

  • LOL @NurseMommy13, this is exactly my LO, I have a dozen pictures like this.  Why do they do this lol?!?!  I of course don't leave LO unattended while trying to suffocate himself either.  Mine could not go to sleep like this, he gets way to excited, like his adrenaline is pumping from living on the edge.  But DH and I are way too nervous to let him sleep with any type of blankie.  Nice to know I am not alone.

  • No advice but LO will sometimes cover his face. When I rock him to sleep he puts his face in my arm pit area and sleep that way. I don't see how he could sleep like but everytime I move his head, he turns it right back. Both of my older boys(6 and 3) always sleep with their head under the covers.

  • You can try the Aden & anais blankets or any muslin material blanket. The fabric is breathable so they can't suffocate, even if they try :)

Well I guess they could of they really wanted to, so still keep an eye :)

  • Ellie will NOT nap at the sitters unless she has her lovie over her face. We never put it there but she will be holding it and it has to go over the face. Even if we move it she puts is right back. She also buries her face in the blanket/ bed when she's on her tummy.

  • I know this looks bad, but I was right there. If she does fall asleep with a blankie, I go in and take it out of her crib after she's fallen asleep. I'm not sure it is really necessary to remove it since it is so little, but it makes me feel better. image
  • This was just today. He has an A+A muslin blanket under this pressed against (not covering) his face but somehow also manages to burrito himself. I am constantly pulling the blanket back but he literally won't nap (in the crib) without it and must have it up near his face. I used to have heart attacks over this but as time goes on and I see that his nose isn't covered I don't drive myself as crazy. image
  • @34blondie they just came out with security blankets that have satin edges. I want to sleep with one!!
