We had their 6mo well visit on Fri and she asked if we had started. I said no and she encouraged us to start. We'll get there. I'm in no rush.
We'll likely start w oatmeal but move on to other fruits and veggies. We'll do purees for a few months - I'll make all of them - and then phase out purees by 11-12mo once they get better at finger food.
I spoke to our pedi about this last week at our 4mo visit. He advised me to wait till 6 months or so, 5 at the earliest. He said it was up to me whether to have cereal and oatmeal. According him it makes no nutritional difference. We'll probably skip them and go straight to veggies. Fruit will be last. I'd love for her to not crave sweets and I've heard putting them last may help that.
We will either start with rice cereal or veggies. We haven't decided yet. And we will probably try sometime between 5 and 6 months but probably closer to 6 months.
The recommendation is starting with veggies. If they start with fruit, and taste that sweet taste, it is going to be hard to get them to eat veggies (if even at all). I would maybe reconsider your choice, if it were me. We started our other two out with green beans first.
I am not starting until 5-6 months. We are skipping rice cereal, my other kids hated it anyway. I am unsure if we are doing BLW or baby food. I haven't decided yet.

Maybe I should switch to a veggie then..good advice
Most def green veggies along with other veggies. I want to try to stay away from sugar as long a possible. Of course we will throw in a fruit every now and then.
I'm in no rush. She hasn't even started to show any interest yet anyway. We might start with oatmeal since I already make it everyday for breakfast. I'll get more serious about the whole thing once she is showing more signs. Until then, we be chillin.
pedi encouraged us to start solids at her 4 month well baby since LO EBFs with no bottle feeding and we're hoping to lower her reflux dose but were not using cereal, we started with avacado.

We talked to the pedi about it at his 4 month visit, but told her we'll be waiting until 6 months. We're hoping to try blw, but I definitely have to read more about it ASAP. Little man is already interested on our food.
We'll be using steel cut oatmeal. He's 4 months today and is showing some interest along with some of the other signs, so we may give it a try in the next few days just to see what he'll do.

We'll do BLW when she appears ready, not likely anytime before 6 months. What we starts with depends on what's on the menu the night we decide to start.

This .. Minus we started putting a small amount of oatmeal in his bottle to help try and thicken a little. He loved avocado!! AW time..
There are a lot of good suggestions here! DD is 5 months tomorrow and has been showing serious interest in food. I was hoping to make it to 6 mo. before trying any foods since she's doing well with BFing but she is seriously stating us down when we eat and even copies the chewing motion with her mouth.
At his 4 months check-up the pedi suggested to wait until 6 months. She said if we wanted, we could try after 5 months but they strongly suggest waiting until 6. We'll probably start in the new year, after he's 5.5 months old.
Although the pedi suggested starting with yellows/oranges first (butternut/acorn squash, carrots, sweet potatoes) I may start with avocados because that's something we actually eat at home. We'll see though.
Edit: ^^I say this because I plan on making all the purees and don't want 2lbs of acorn squash puree sitting in the freezer because DH and I don't each much of it.
When making my own purees last time, I bought ice cube trays and would make big batches of fruits and veggies, portion into nice cube trays, cover w plastic wrap and label, and then pop out into gallon ziploc bags when frozen. They keep for a couple months, prob longer in a deep freeze. I just microwaved a cube when I needed it.
I was planning to wait until 6 mos, but with her slow weight gain we'll probably start between 5 and 6 which is really soon for us! She'll be 5 mos on the 25th.
I may introduce oatmeal at some point, but no rice cereal.
DH is going to make some food and freeze it this week. We're starting with squash.

Had our precious baby girl, Little Miss E, on August 14, 2013 ♥ 143 → I.love.you. ♥

Then probably some veggie purées. Around 8 or 9 months id like to be doing bits and pieces of stuff, more like BLW.
