1st Trimester

6 weeks with brownish discharge

This morning I woke up and after peeing, noticed that there was brown discharge on the toilet paper. I immediately freaked out, called my oncall who said just to watch it for the weekend and call on Monday to see if I can get my ultra sound moved up from Friday to either Monday or Tuesday. I don't have any cramping and there has no been blood in my pee. What I have read online (because that's what really makes this any better!) is that it's kind of "normal" but just have to wait it out. This is my second pregnancy and didn't really have this the first time around. More of a just need to get this off my chest than asking for any sort of help. Thanks for listening

Re: 6 weeks with brownish discharge

  • I had an ultrasound on Thursday due to brown discharge but it was at the time of my m/c last time.  The ultrasound only confirmed there is something going on and I'm behind but in two weeks we will look again so don't worry to much about the ultrasound they don't always help

  • Try not to freak out...I realize that is easier said then done.

I had spotting all of Week 6 (brown, pink, even red), it came and went all week and then mysteriously disappeared the day I turned 7 weeks.  Granted, it was never enough to go on my underwear, I would say it reminded me of the first day of my period.

I am now over 9 weeks and haven't had any spotting at all since.  I've had 2 ultrasounds so far and everything looks great with a strong heartbeat.  However, I still check every time I wipe just in case.

Try to rest, drink lots of water, and relax...so far that has been working for me.  Good thoughts being sent your way!!

  • Thanks ladies! I called my ob this morning and they said since it's not bright red, then I should just hold off until my ultrasound on Friday. I've been trying not to think about it and have def been drinking more water and keeping my feet up as much as I can (easier said than done with a 2 year old!!) but thank you all none the less. I appreciate all your comments :)
  • I had brown discharge from week 6 all the way through week 10+. My OB was never worried because baby always looked fine at my appointments. It's been gone almost a week now (along with my MS) and I have an u/s tomorrow. FX'd that the LO is in there dancing away :)

  • Brown blood is old blood.. meaning its blood that you've already bled. I'd be concerned if you were seeing red or pink.. good luck though. Try not to worry and call your OB if you feel like you need to.
