Hmvbaby14's birth story! (LONG) with PIP

J14 ladies- Thank you for all of your T&P's! Also, thank you for the discussions that I have followed day after day after day (after night) after day throughout this pregnancy. I haven't posted much, but I have followed along from the beginning and have learned so much. As I sit here and type this I still can't believe that baby Levi is here! I had a 100% "normal" pregnancy from day 1 and last Wednesday was the same as any other day. I am a Kindergarten teacher and Thursday was my last day of work before the holiday break (I also plan to be a SAHM so Thursday would have been my last day period). I've spent the last couple of weeks preparing my classroom for a substitute teacher but my pregnancy remained normal. BH contractions had increased some, but there were no signs that labor was on its way. On Wednesday after tying up all of the loose ends in my classroom (nesting???) I had a regularly scheduled 37 week appointment for a cervical check. My OB did the cervical check and said that I was only dilated about a finger tip, that baby wasn't coming anytime soon, I hadn't had any contractions, and as a FTM he would be in there for at least a couple of weeks. She planned for me to come back in on 12/30 and have an ultra sound next week. After she left and I stood up, DH and I noticed some blood. I knew that bleeding was normal and expected it, but it seemed like more than I should have, so he called the dr back in. She immediately had me get back up, rechecked and said I was now dilated 4 cm. In the span of 90 seconds she went from saying that she'd see me in a couple of weeks to "you are going to the hospital and having a baby today or tomorrow". I of course instantly started crying and freaking out, I could see the concern in her eyes too that she wasn't sure what was going on. We immediately left and went to L&D and were rushed in to be hooked up to monitors and given an ultrasound. Her immediate thoughts were that the placenta had detached hence all of the bleeding. After a very stressful hour of freaking out and worry, everything came back normal, I was having minor contractions, but felt the same as any other day. The nursing staff said that the dr would probably just keep me for 24 hours and send me home. At 7:53pm while laying in the bed my water broke! At first I thought I was just peeing myself but then realized I couldn't stop and that had to be what was going on. At this point it still hadn't hit me that the baby was coming (20 days early!!!!) As the night progressed I was given my epidural but still had not dilated beyond 4cm. In the middle of the night the nurses noticed that baby was not responding well to my contractions (dropping heart rate) so they put me on oxygen and gave me a shot of terbutaline to hopefully "jump start" the rhythm of my contractions. The shot seemed to have worked and when the dr came back in around 9 am I was at 7cm. They started Pitocin and told me I would have a baby by lunch time. Levi Erickson was born at 11:28 am 5lbs 5oz 18 3/4 inches long! He is the most precious thing in the world to me and I am so proud to be his mommy. I still cannot get over the fact that he is here.
