Feeling puffy....

I'm 23 weeks and took my socks off yesterday and had a big red indent where the top of the socks were. It also hurt to touch that area too. Then, this morning I woke up and one of my eyelids seemed a little puffy (nothing dramatic) but noticeable.

Isn't it too early to start swelling?? I always heard this could happen in the 3rd trimester...

Perhaps, it's all the sugar I've been eating around the holiday...?

Re: Feeling puffy....

  • Just from what I've been reading from all those "You're X amount of weeks!" e-mails from the bump, pampers, huggies, everyday family etc, swelling can happen before then. I only remember reading about feet and legs but I don't remember about the face. I'm a FTM so I don't really know what's normal, but that's what I've read

  • Make sure you're getting enough protein. I had some swelling a few weeks ago and my doc said that increasing my protein and water intake should help- it did!

  • FYI sugar doesn't make you retain water, salt does. To echo PP's, drink more water, watch your sodium intake, and try the protein increase. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

  • My feet are super sensitive to swelling. In fact every month (pre pregnancy) around my period starting, I would get swollen ankles. I just retain water very easily. I'm a ftm and I have had feet swelling since about 20 wks. Dr said its normal. All of my tests come back normal... I'm healthy... Just healthy with swollen ankles and feet. Luckily hubby rubs them every night. It definitely feels better when he does. Try upping the water and see if he can do some foot rubs!
  • My ankles have been swelling some this week, especially when I wear a certain pair of boots. I think it's normal!

  • My SIL had swelling starting at 14 weeks. It can happen at any time. I started swelling with DD1 around 25-28 weeks.

I just noticed yesterday that my socks are getting indents. Ugh this is the one thing about pregnancy that I really can't stand. No more skinny jeans for me pretty soon.

  • My feet hurt so bad from being swollen I'm my shoes the other day I stoped into Payless to get a pair of loose fitting flats. Best shoes ever!
  • My fingeres and feet were swelling yesterday. I feel like it happens after being active all day.
