I am debating whether or not to post our Christmas card "annoucement" on fb. I've seen opinions from both sides. Just curious about your reasoning. Those who feel strongly either way- help a girl out?
If you do, just make sure it's really crystal clear that you're expecting. People rush through news feeds and skim them, so you may be disappointed if you have some people not noticing or not "getting" it.
For instance, I posted a pic of my dogs with the words "Baby ____ Duty Starts June 2014".... and some people asked if my dogs were pregnant.
Yes, we are putting out a fb announcement since a ton of our friends live out of town. Question for everyone as well.... If a fb friend put out a similar announcement as you, would you be upset? A fb friend announced today and what she did is similar to what we wanted to do. I don't want it to look like we are copying her, but we had this thought up weeks ago. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be upset. There are only so many ways to announce and everyone has access to the same Pinterest ideas.
I know I personally LOVE seeing everyone's announcements. I say yes as long as like your mom won't find out that way. One of my somewhat distant friends posted a pic of her ultrasound pic on Facebook one day saying "look what I made!" And after 20 comments from surprised friends, her MOM commented "get home now." Lol. Apparently she didn't tell a soul she was pregnant. Her provocative. But she was 17, you'd think she would have told her mom at the very least.
Go for it. If you're active on Facebook, people are going to figure it out eventually anyway. But as PPs said, tell important people individually first.
We're trying to do as many in-person notifications as we can, and will post something right after the holiday most likely. The only people who are going to learn from Facebook are old friends from high school, some former co-workers, etc. Not our nearest and dearest.
I really don't care too much about the people I don't stay actively in touch with knowing that I'm pregnant. I mean, what difference does it make to them, and do they really care?
Those that I actually keep in touch with know, or soon will, and it won't be via Facebook. If we don't actually stay in touch outside of fb and are just 'friends' because I'm too lazy to delete you, I do t really care about you knowing this.
My stance is fb announcements seem AWish if you have already 'announced' to those you care about and don't really stay in touch with those that would see the announcement.
We're going to post a sonogram pic to facebook on christmas after we've told our family. I just want everyone to know as quickly and painlessly as possible so I can start openly talking about it!
I will after I'm sure everyone I sent cards to have already received them.
^^This.
My husband was actually very adamant that we do a FB announcement - I guess he just really wants to "shout it from the rooftops" so to speak, lol so we will be posting something tomorrow to go along with the 3 year anniversary of the day he proposed Our mailed Christmas card announcements have all already been received by our closest friends and family so we are fine with announcing to the world now.
I don't plan on it. I go on FB a lot and enjoy reading other people's status updates but don't post much myself. I'm sure at some point in the future I will post something that references pregnancy or baby but not planning to do an announcement.
Also some of my clients are FB friends and I'm not sure I want them to know too early. I'm afraid they might not send me work knowing I will be out for maternity leave and I still need to stay busy until June!
I love Facebook pregnancy announcements. Yeah they may be AW but isn't that basically the whole premise of Facebook in reality? Maybe I'm weird but I also love the sonograms too. I love to try to see how the baby looks and sometimes can even see how they resemble one of the parents. (My nephew's jaw in the womb was identical to his dad's) the 4D videos are awsome!
Yes, we did one. But I'm personally neutral on them otherwise. We announced to our close family and friend by about 11 weeks and announced on FB at 13w after our NT went ok.
