Inconsistent movement...need reassurance!

Hello!
I know I started feeling baby at around 16 weeks. Just a random light tap or bubbly feeling. I had a scan at 17 weeks and all was fine and I leave super upbeat and positive. Then I notice that the movement has not evened out or become consistent. With my first I didnt feel her until 21 weeks and I guess I assumed that once you start feeling baby move it was continue and continue to get stronger. Thoughts? Advice?

Re: Inconsistent movement...need reassurance!

  • I have yet to feel movement (FTM, still early, and anterior placenta), but there have been a bunch of posts on here about how inconsistent movement is in the beginning, and that it comes and goes. It's totally normative to go feel baby a lot in one day and have a lull the next few days, or to only feel the baby at a certain time of day. I don't know far along you are, but it seems you're still fairly early, so I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

This. I've been reading that you can't go by movement or kicks until closer to 30 weeks. Don't worry about it yet.

  • I'm 21 weeks today and only just started feeling what I know is definitely baby about a week ago. And it's still very inconsistent. From everything I've read and been told, this is totally normal.

All AL-ers welcome in my posts! <3
  • I'm 19 weeks and still only feel slight infrequent movements. I'm also a STM and felt DS around 20ish weeks
  • I guess I just get so confused when I read people telling me about their crazy movements so early on. I'll quit being a spaz! :)
  • Every woman and every pregnancy is different. It'd do your sanity well to stop comparing to others, they may just be the exception to the rule. I've felt this little one "flicking" since 13w, now at 21w she has busy days and lazy days. She's been actively busy and obvious since around 17w.

  • Me too exactly. Im 18 w on monday. In fact I just posted a question on another post where ladies were discussing movement at night. I've been questioning it but just assume baby moved to a new position that I can't feel. 6 days until our AS so I will get relief from my nerves then.
  • Our little one has busy days and lazy days. Today is the latter. I have a desk job, so I feel her a lot in the week, but i'm usually moving around a lot at the weekends, so don't feel her as much. Either she's been rocked to sleep or i'm just distracted.

  • As long as I feel movement at least once a day I tell myself little girls ok;) she absolutely has super hyper days and days where i only feel her once or twice
  • I agree with what everyone else has said. I will add that I never got a Doppler because it seemed like a lot of money and might make me more stressed. A stethoscope can basically do a similar thing. I've read you can sometimes hear the movements that you otherwise might not feel. I've never done it so I don't know but seems like a much cheaper investment.

  • I'm just over 20 weeks and felt a few things here and there but not a lot. I've also got an anterior placenta. I don't think you feel movement consistently until much later on like pp said

  • It varies for everyone. I am 21 weeks and depending on what way baby is facing i sometimes feel movement but usually nothing. My LO is shy and tends to face my back and so i will go days without feeling anything. And i honestly didn't feel any definitive movement until about a week ago.

  • I didn't feel DD until 19 weeks and didn't feel consistent movement for at least a couple of weeks.

I *just* started feeling this baby yesterday (I have an anterior placenta this time) and it's not consistent at all.
