2nd Trimester

Is it really a girl??

We had our gender ultrasound about 2 weeks ago and for whatever reason, I question if it's really a girl. I can see that there isn't a little nob for a boy, but I don't see the 3 lines for the girl. Also, I don't know what the big black blob is behind her lady parts. Do my pics look like anyone elses? I just don't want any surprises on delivery day. Thank you!!!

Re: Is it really a girl??

  • I don't see a dingaling! My boy was really showing his.
You're freindly and nice and popular a14 AE :)) :))
  • Loading the player...
  • I question my girl shot too. Mine looks different than yours though. I'm horrible at reading ultrasounds so can't offer much advice. When's your next ultrasound? Or could you do an elective?
  • That's a girl. And her bladder. No worries :)
  • If they tech told you they were confident, then I would assume it's a girl.  Remember they scan through the whole area and print off just an image or two.  Just because the one picture they give you may not be the greatest doesn't mean that they're wrong.  Congrats on your baby girl. :)

Look different than DD girl pics, but maybe it is just a bad shot.
ETA: do you mean this was your anatomy scan or one of those random places that do ultrasounds for entertainment purposes?

  • Gender ultrasound? Really?

Uh, yeah. It's an anatomy scan to make sure there are no abnormalities with your baby. They don't do it just so you know if you're having a boy or girl.

  • I second PPs that this isn't a great shot and the sono tech knows much more than any of us.

That being said, we saw 3 very distinct lines on our U/S. I'd say this is just a bad picture.
  • No, it was not an elective, gender specific ultrasound. It was the regular 20 week ultrasound where they look at growth, organs, etc. I don't know what it is called, so I just referred to it as a gender ultrasound.

I can't say that she was 100% confident because we asked her to write down the gender so we could look at it privately at home. I agree that it looks like a bad picture, but everything I read says there is supposed to be 3 lines where her lady parts are & I just don't see them. I do not have another ultrasound scheduled for the rest of my pregnancy.

I also noticed (now that I am on my computer) that the images are not showing up on here. Wonder if that is because I posted from my phone??

  • It looks girl to me. Boys are very obvious.

  • What's a gender ultrasound? Did my doctor forget to give me one?! Also, if the tech was saying its a girl, the odds of her knowing are a little bit better than whatever you're "questioning"

    It's a BOY

  • It's called an anatomy scan.

  • Whenever you have another u/s just ask if they can double check. I don't see the lines that I saw with both DD and baby b this time around but that doesn't mean anything. If the tech was confident enough to tell you a gender it's probably going to be right. Most generally don't make a habit of guessing

  • I can't see it that great but I'd trust them although, a friend of mine was told girl and had an unmistakable boy! lol!
aaaand, I am going to my friends office today to get a gender US!!! she's an OB. I used to work in radiology & people would US themselves or friend coworkers quite often for fun or for students. I always thought unnecessary US were a bad idea but I'm dying to find out so I'm going today.

  • Thank you washingtonqueen & bingbongsmama

I think you misunderstood my post. You need to get your priorities straight.

  • She's not allowed to be excited to find out if she's having a boy or a girl? That's an exciting part of the pregnancy. Maybe too many of us are so riddled with anxiety and fear that the a/s will reveal a deformity that we don't get to enjoy enough of the light, fun stuff.

What's with the dictating how another woman should feel about and prioritize aspects of their pregnancy?

Um what exactly is wrong with my priorities? I missed the part where there's something wrong with wanting to know my baby's gender....

The first and foremost thing on a mother's mind should be making sure her child, whatever the sex, is healthy. Sex of the child comes after. An anatomy scan is only given to check on the babies health, it is NOT to check the sex. Calling it a gender scan shows that her priorities are backwards. The excuse of "I don't know what it's called" is invalid. No doctor calls them a gender scan, they call it an anatomy scan if the OP ever cared to listen. OP called it a gender scan because that is what she cares about.

Get a grip. Just because I forgot the official name of my 20 week u/s means that I don't care about the health of my baby?? Who gives a crap what I called it. My question wasn't about the name of the ultrasound so I'm sorry that you misunderstood the original post and that's what you decided to comment on. Quit being so nitpicky.

And just so you know, my baby and I are perfectly healthy. Finding out what we are having is just icing on the cake.

  • I have to agree with PPs. In fact I am scared for my a/s because I. Just want my baby to be developing perfectly, they scan every aspect of the body. Like the brain and spine ! I wonder if OP missed all of that during her u/s... I found out I am having a girl really really early so it could still likely be boy ... But confirming whether or not it is last of my worries. I even called my doctor to see when I would be getting one because I did not have an nt scan or harmony so I'm very very eager for my anatomy scan. OP not trying to sound rude but did you even pay attention to the scan or were you just waiting for her to tell you the sex of the baby?

    It's a BOY

If you really felt this way you would not have called it a gender scan. It is NOT a gender scan.
  • Looks like a girl to me. Maybe she's just a little swollen. I had an elective one a little over a week ago and the tech was 100% it was girl. He showed me many angles, even 4d. Said she wasn't going to grow anything at this point. I was 16w5d. Here are my pics.
  • Here's my other (wouldn't upload in other post).
  • @lauralou3x3, I would for sure call that a girl. Congrats!
  • @spartybride3 :

"What I refer to an u/s as says NOTHING about my priorities. I'm sorry that you have nothing better to do than scrutinize one word in a post."

Actually, it does say everything about your priorities. More than one person has collectively told you that this matters. You are choosing to believe otherwise. What you want to communicate is not being communicated. Own it. Understand it & fix it. Arguing is fruitless & could be perceived as petulance. Titles & name assignments for things matter.

"You have a lot of nerve questioning someone's priorities, especially when you base it off of one word."
we only go off the information that you provide. Don't be angry with us because of how your post is being received. If more than one person comes to this conclusion, what does that tell you? We can't all be wrong, dear.

"And for your information, I am a psychologist that works in special education so I have an abnormal interest in the growth and development of my baby and any child that I will ever work with."

Honestly, from your OP I would have never guessed this. It seems like all you cared about was if this kid has a vagina or not.

Lol that I have comprehension issues. :))

I promise I'm not delusional, honey. It was not just me that had the same conclusions about your posts.

I have a marvelous, loving & fulfilled life. Thank you for noting that! ;)

  • Whoa. These comments have gotten way out of hand. I honestly feel like spartybride had no ill-intentions with the way she worded her post. To berate her and make accusations that she doesn't care about the health of her baby is just rude. Everyone needs to lighten up and offer support to our fellow ladies. And the comment about how some people may not like how she worded her post because they've suffered losses or received bad news at their anatomy scans is asinine - just because you've had pain in your past doesn't give you to right to judge and bully someone else. Even if calling it a "gender scan" is ignorant, there are more helpful ways to educate someone than making them feel badly about themselves and how they feel about their baby.
