I'm not sure if this is really a confession or should have been on yesterday's UO thread. I don't think it's right that people fail to plan for their families in the event of a disaster/freak accident and instead rely on the kindness and generosity of others to get them through it. For example: when your house burns down, you have no insurance, and yet complain that others aren't helping you get back on your feet by donating money or items; when your husband tragically dies in a vehicle accident at the age of 32 and leaves a wife and two children behind, with no life insurance policy to even cover the burial costs, and donations are taken to help the family; when your baby (18 months) gets sick and ends up in the hospital for a few weeks, instead of alternating time with the child both spouses take unpaid leave of absence and then set up an online account and seek donations to pay their living expenses through facebook. All of these situations I have personally seen in the last month. I just don't understand the no life/home/renters insurance thing. Even when I made didley squat fresh out of college I had renter's insurance and a life insurance policy that was enough to bury my butt. I could kind of see the family with the sick baby, but the way they went about it was terrible. Then to post updates about just sitting around. One of them could have gone to work. I've been in that position with a sick baby in the hospital. We were lucky enough to be able to afford that both of us could be there. But there was a time that we thought my husband was going to have to leave us there because he was running out of paid leave days. If it had come to that, he would have.
I realize to some this probably makes me sound like a complete and utter biotch. Oh well! There's my confession! Flame away if you must.
A girl on my FB friends threw herself a "bowling fundraiser" to pay her medical bills. Bitch I've been paying medical bills for 3 years little by little. I'm gonna throw myself a fundraiser to suck people in to pay my bills lol
I've decided I'm going to have a student loans fundraiser because it was everyone else's decision for me to go to college and grad school. FFS.
So we went to see Santa. And mother of the year over here didn't bring a diaper bag because it was going to be quick.
I was right, it was a quick in and out picture. Like 10 mins total.
But little turkey man decided to shit himself just as we were pulling into the mall. So he sat on santas lap with a poopy diaper.
what magical place do you live in that you can get in and out of the mall in 10 min and not have a line for santa!!
It took me 10 minutes just to find a parking spot yesterday!
visiting my sister in tiny ass east Texas. Yay for small town livin'
@lisarene77 I'm just a jump away from ya in Nacogdoches visiting.
I'd never go to see Santa in Dallas. That's a breakdown waiting to happen.
WTF!? you better let me know next time you're coming this way. That's only an hour away. I swear we need to organize a Texas A13 get together. I've been thinking about it a LOT lately. There are quite a few of us.
yes, we should! I know I don't post too much but I would be down! I'm in Dallas.

Let's revisit this idea in the spring, when it's nicer outside. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to plan.
My FFFC is that I secretly and highly enjoy reading sleep regression posts. All you betches that would post about your baby sleeping 6 hrs every night are now as sleep deprived as me and I love it.
I know I know

I've eaten Christmas cookies all week for breakfast with my coffee. I can't stop. I've given up losing weight til after the holidays. So I'm going all out.
This is exactly what I was going to post.
Also, I haven't bought anything for LO really. I bought her a couple of little toys/rattles, but that's it. The grandparents are going crazy and I'm okay with that. But it's not all my idea, I would have gone crazy if DH would have let me.
Aaannnddd DH and I don't buy each other anything. Ever. We never exchange gifts. Mostly because we generally end up getting anything we really want. We don't get to spend a ton of time together because he works a lot, so we usually spend the money we'd spend on gifts on doing something together. For instance, for Christmas this year, he is taking a week of vacation after the new year and we're going to Chicago for the day.
@sftbllstr87 if it makes you feel any better I'm not even in fat pants...still rockin my maternity pants over here. And that probably won't change over the winter. unless leggings count?
My fffc...I've never been to sephora. I hear they have awesome perfume though!
Winter is ruining all hopes of this weight leaving! Besides the delicious food and goodies everywhere (work, parties, family gatherings) it's too dark and cold all the time who wants to workout when you could be snuggling ok the couch under a blanket
Dudes- I'm off the deep end. MH and I are so fucked. We started watching The Walking Dead 2 weeks ago and have finished every season to the current episode. We have watched so much zombie shit in a 2 week period that we have officially started to believe that this could and might actually happen. All we have started to talk about is what we would do when (not if) the disease starts killing people off. Do we make a bomb shelter now? Should we start working on our archery skills? What age exactly would we let little Alabama use a gun to shoot walkers?
We've lost it folks. I need more friends. @bellaoso this is what you're dealing with over here.

In regards to V&G's post--honestly I don't think I could SAH. I'm pretty sure I would go insane. So many people at work have told me, "Oh it must be so hard to be away. I'm sure you miss your baby so much". And, sure I do, but I enjoy working too. There are pros and cons to both. If you could see the evil eye I get when I say being a working mom works for me... wow. People do not like hearing that.
Basically, different strokes and all that. I do think it's messed up how judgmental people are of mothers, especially the ones who want to SAH but need to work.

On the other end of the spectrum, mine is getting a 3 ft tall teddy bear for Christmas. They were 70% off, so I got one for him and one for my niece. I'm actually a little more excited about giving one to her, because she's 4 and she will know what's going on.

I've been planning a huge 1st Christmas for DD since she was born. I love Christmas and have probably gone a bit overboard but I dont care. I guess that's my confession. You only get one 1st Christmas for your 1st baby

Um we have "bug out" bags and we know where we will rendezvous once the zombie apocalypse begins. DH keeps insisting we need more ammo. We are starting to look like we belong on doomsday peppers.

@crazed178 I totally understand what you're talking about. I don't understand how people care so much about what other mother choose to do. It doesn't affect them!
While I was on ML, two of my friends (one is child-free, the other has two kids) were both like, "You are going back to work. RIGHT?" Like, they would be offended if I wasn't. The child-free friend told me I was too smart to SAH. WTF.
I don't understand the judgement. It doesn't affect anyone but your own family, so people should just chill.

Seriously since I met my DH this is about 50% of our conversations. He is obsessed with end of world scenarios whether it be zombies or aliens, etc, he is prepared. He has a series of plans written out. He has a meet up spot for all of our families up north "off the grid".
Now that we have DS he is constantly worried about how we will travel to said spot with LO and our dog.

i am relieved that i am not the only one who is doing this!
This WHOLE TIME, I thought "gif" was pronounced with a hard G.
Wait.. It's not?!!
So the nerd in me had to go look this up. EVEN THOUGH the G stands for Graphic the inventor of the format (Steve Wilhite) insists it's prounounced "jif". This makes no sense to me at all.
He made it up, he can pronounce it however he wants :P
Since giving birth, I'm too scared to wear perfume, change body wash, or use scented lotion because I'm nervous LO won't recognize my smell.
I am right there with you!! I need a smaller bottle of lotion for traveling this weekend (I am obsessed with my lotion), and I have Aveeno that I keep at work on my desk that would be perfect to travel with, but I use Vaseline's Cocoa Butter normally. I decided to get a smaller thing of the Cocoa butter on my lunch today so I dont confuse LO.

YES! Ours came on Monday, even though the email said they'd be delivered today. They're so awesome and squishy! I agree about baby's first Christmas. We also took the opportunity to have some awesome 3 month photos done. This is only happening once, and I'll make the celebration as big as I want (and can afford) to.

YES! Sadly, though, we have decided that in an event that we can't get out, we would use our dogs as bait to leave unnoticed. But that's in complete survival. Otherwise my h would use the wrap and wear them while on foot. They are weiner dogs. They wouldn't be able to keep up.
Confession based on my current work surroundings- I am side eyeing the majority of my coworkers right now. There are so many people that overthink their work, ask for second opinions (they have been here far too long for that), and delay files that can be closed just because they lack confidence. My confession is that I consider myself a better worker than all of them because I close more files a month, recover the most financially, rarely need second opinions, and I still have time to bump.
