Any tips for a belly sleeper?!? Help!

I am getting all sorts of dead arms and kinked necks because I don't know how to sleep on my sides. I have tried putting pillows between my legs and I end up kicking them off while I'm sleeping. I thought about getting a pregnancy pillow but I don't know which one and if it will solve my problem... Anyone have any advice?

  • I sleep partially on my belly also and so far I can still sleep that way pretty comfortably.  One way I found I was comfortable last time was sleeping on my side, but leaned back a bit and supported by DH.  Does that make sense?  So I wasn't fully on my side and I had support behind me without laying on my back.  A pillow could work too (DH doesn't always lay in a way conducive to this).

  • I heard the snoogle was the way to go! It was suggested in another post, and I actually asked the MIL for one - & tada! :) Sorry I can't say from experience, but from what I've heard, they're great!
  • Just prepare yourself for 4-5 more months of pure hell.

Ha. No, I kid (sort of). I had a pregnancy pillow with all 3 of my prev pregnancies but gave it to a friend after my youngest was born (thinking i was done!) I have a lot of pillows. Between my legs, under my belly, one behind my back etc. Play around with it until you find a way that is comfortable for you.

  • The first pregnancy, I slept on my belly til like 25 weeks and felt so guilty about it afterwards.  This time I got a snoogle @around 9 weeks and it was worth every penny.  I regret I didn't want to spend the money the first time around.  I do get a little tired of it because it is hard to change positions but now I am even do ok without it and sometimes I just put it aside.

  • I just have a regular old run-of-the-mill, nearly-15-years-old, holy-tattered-and-torn, body pillow that we've found a case for to keep it from completely falling apart. I still sleep on my stomach a good bit, typically on my right side (I know, I'm bad) with a leg stuck out to prop me up a bit so I'm not flat on it. I usually can't get as comfy doing the same thing on my left side, because that's where DH is, but find regular left side sleep with body pillow between my legs and cuddled up to my chin more comfortable than it is on the right side. The occasional back sleep happens, but I usually have to tip a bit to one side or the other and stick body pillow under my back some. Good luck!

  • I have a Snoogle and it helps a little to keep me propped up on my side, but I'm also still really tempted to sleep on my belly or back.
  • I definitely agree with the PPs. I love my snoogle! I highly recommend the snoogle mini. It's mor compact that the pregnancy pillow I used during my first pregnancy. By the end of my first pregnancy, both DH and I were ready to burn that giant pillow.

  • I got my snoogle a few weeks ago and LOVE it! Highly recommend it!
  • I also recommend the snoogle!  I sleep with it in a "C" formation and put my regular pillow on top, with another regular pillow on the open side, so I'm propped up from all angles.

  • I roll onto my belly but prop my knee out, if that makes sense? Sometimes I put a pillow there and THEN use my knee as a kick stand too. It keeps me from putting full weight on my belly. I also strategically use my arms as props as well...  My MW told me I can sleep how I want as long as I'm comfy. I feel like as long as you aren't putting all your weight on your belly (which wouldn't feel good anyway) you should be fine.
  • Snoogle it up....

I do this too, but it's starting to get uncomfortable.

The worst part is you won't be able to sleep on your stomach for awhile afterwards either because your boobs will be so engorged!

  • I have a leachco (sp?) back and belly pillow that I LOVE. It's U-shaped, fabulous, and worth every penny. Only downside is that it is huge--luckily DH & I have a king size bed.
  • Thanks guys this was so helpful!
  • I got a boppy full body pillow, like the snoogle but cheaper. I sleep mostly on my belly still but twist my hips a bit so that I'm not flat on my stomach. Does that make sense?
