My baby girl was diagnosed with a cleft palate last week and today we got to go in for a 3D ultrasound to see what it looks like. She wasn't super cooperative but we did get this pic. The cleft is pretty wide and I realize it looks pretty scary to most people, but somehow my motherly instincts just kick in and I think she is adorable. We also found out today that what they thought was a pelvic kidney is not a kidney so she is basically missing a kidney. So not great news, but you only need one kidney to live so it's not life threatening or anything. We are waiting back on a ton of genetic tests and will find out if she has DS, T18, or T13 tomorrow so I'm hoping for the best. Wish us luck!

UPDATE!!
Thank you so much for all the support. We haven't told many people in our real life support network because we don't want to worry people before we have more information so it was so nice to be able to at least vent to you all. I can't believe how many of you took the time to write words of encouragement to a random internet stranger. I even showed DH all of the comments and I think it helped him to see that no one was going to say our baby was ugly (at least to our face haha!). It also helps to know of people who have had these same problems and have lived happy healthy lives. We did get our results from the FISH test today and they show she does not have DS, T18 or T13 so that is a good sign. We have a few more tests in the works that will take a little bit longer to process. Thanks again for all of your support, it really helps to hear your words of encouragement!

Re: 3D pic of my cleft palate cutie ***Test results UPDATE***
my dad donated one of his kidneys a few years ago to a friend who had PCKD and he has been living a very hearty, happy, healthy life ever since. he's one of the most active 50-somethings i know! i think your daughter's one kidney will not stop her from doing great things in this life
Then I peed on a stick...

FWIW, Another A12 mom in my group has a son who was born with cleft palate and he has been a trooper through his surgeries and he is the cutest little boy I've laid eyes on! I cant even see the area that was a cleft lip anymore and he's only 16 months old.
