Bath time?

Are you giving LO a bath before bed it in the morning? For those who bath at night does LO seem to sleep better? Do you give a bath everyday or every other day? Currently I give LO a bath every other morning but after reading the earlier post about getting LO into a bedtime schedule I'm thinking night seems better

Re: Bath time?

  • We do baths in the morning because they get him all worked up.

  • We do Owens at night every other night. He LOVES his bath time.
  • Mr C gets his bath right before lunch (usually). He LOVES bath time! I haven't really noticed that he sleeps much longer afterwards- if he did I would do it at night.
  • Baby girl has a bath every night, and she seems to love it, but her sleep is still very unpredictable (she's just under 5weeks so I'm big too suprised)
  • We do daytime baths right now... Every other day or so... Her skin was getting too dry with everyday bathing so we sponge bathe when she gets dressed but give her a full batt as needed per pediatrician a recommendation. She takes a good nap after her bath but our evenings haven't been conducive to baths... We may change our routine as we get further into winter and as we get into work routines after the holidays.
  • In use bathe then nurse again and she seems to sleep better. I also bathe her every night

  • We bath every other night, C loves it, and typical routine is feed, bath, lotion/massage, swaddle and put down. Sometimes we need to rock or snuggle before he will stay down, but not more than 30 mins. He sleeps 5-6 hours for the first stretch of the night.
  • We do every other evening. Usually around 6 or 7pm. She doesn't love baths but she tolerates them now without throwing a fit. So she gets her bath and then I oil her skin (with coconut oil, it has been helping so much better with dry skin! Lotion wasn't doing enough and almost seemed to make it worse.) then she usually nurses. Her last nursing session of the night before she sleeps for 4-5 hours is between 10pm-12am (it isn't consistent every night but it always falls in this time window). She is a night owl which works for me because that is my norm! :)

  • Little K gets a nightly bath. She happens to love them and I have noticed a difference in her sleep! The key for her is warmth! She likes it warmer than recommended and she likes her body mostly submerged. I keep a washcloth on the area that isn't in water and keep it warm by pouring water on it frequently. Trial and error got us to this point! We feed, bathe, lotion massage (she loves a good foot massage) dress, swaddle, turn on the white noise machine, then feed again. Her stretch of sleep is usually 5 hours then 3 after that.
Some nights are better than others but the bath really seems to calm her! Last night was a busy night and it was late so we were going to skip the bath but keep the rest of the routine. She was overtired and nothing was working so we did her bath and it was just what she needed!

  • We do baths every other night and she loves them. She sleeps better the nights we do them so I may change to every night after reading some of you already do that. I read previously it wasn't good for their skin to do daily baths yet but I see that just may be another opinion.
  • We always give a bath between 8;40 and 8 - we have a baby with a LOT of hair, so we wash hair very day. He loves the bath! Then we do lotion/pjs and he's nice and alert for his last feeding before bed. Neither his skin or hair seem to be drying out with this routine.
  • Jesus, who has time to bathe their baby every night?  We are getting three times a week if we're lucky.  I also have read repeatedly that babies don't need daily baths, so we're good with where we are for now.

I do have a question for those who shower with their babies - I'd be willing to try this, but I don't understand the logistics.  Do you hold LO the whole time?  Doesn't she get slippery and hard to hold?  And if you do, how do you get yourself clean?  If not, where/how do you put her down?  SO many questions!

Thank you, voice of reason! We're bathing fully submersed only twice a week in the bathroom sink. I'm wiping her down with a washcloth every day though. Would never feel comfortable with a shower at this point!
This is us too. He loves baths but they dry his skin out, take forever, and he just doesn't need them every day. I do a washcloth wipe down most mornings and a bath about 2x a week.

I put LO's bathtub on the ground in my shower and he is content. I like being able to shower as long as I want so it's worth the more cramped conditions to me.  I have no clue how people shower holding their LO. He'd surely slip out of my grasp.
  • We do baths every other day. Our bedtime routine starts at 7. If its bath day she gets a bath at 7, then a little massage with lotion, put her in her jammies, then we nurse and daddy usually cuddles her till she falls asleep. We also dim all the lights and keep the TV volume low starting at 7.
I don't really notice a difference in how she sleeps after a bath. She's still not sure how she feels about bath time. She doesn't scream anymore, but they aren't her favorite thing in the world.
