So I got a cerclage...

edited December 2013 in May 2014 Moms
And everything went well. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Doc said my cervix continued to funnel leading up to the procedure so there was even less to work with than he expected (and completely justifying -in my mind- the whole procedure) but that he managed to get me back up to a couple centimeters.

Baby girl was playing hide and go seek with the Doppler all day long, but they found her before during and after, so she's fine. I'm a little achy and ready for a good long evening resting in bed. DH brought me soup and clementines, and I'm off to catch up on what I missed on the bump while I was hanging out at the hospital :)

  • Glad your cerclage is done and went well :) Keeping you in my thoughts for continued good news.

Quick question: what's your post-op plan looking like? Bed rest? Partial bed rest? No bed rest? I'm facing the same thing here and curious about the "after".

My doc isn't a fan of bed rest with preventative cerclages. For 24 hours I'm to eat bland food, stay off my feet, and keep well hydrated. After that my restrictions are for the duration of the pregnancy: No standing for more than 6 hours in any given day. 1 hr limit on shopping/walking trips. No lifting more than 15lbs. Pelvic rest (no sex, orgasms, or anything inside the vagina). Immediate rest and hydration in the event of ANY contractions, Braxton hicks, or any pain or tightness that might even hint at contractions.

And I have a list of things that require an immediate call to my OB: Fever over 100.4. More than 5 contractions of any kind (including Braxton hicks) in 1 hour. Heavy bleeding or watery discharge.

He was huge on the contraction warnings because I'm at risk for preterm labour even with a cerclage and they have to clip the cerclage if PTL starts or I'll risk ripping my cervix open. Not everyone is a multitasker like me though :)

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • So glad to hear everything went well today! Fingers crossed that baby girl stays perfectly comfortable where she is for another few months at least.

That's awesome you're not on bedrest! Those restrictions don't sound too bad at all- I'm so freaked about having to be on strict bedrest, but this gives me hope :) That's so great that your doc is really on the ball with having you call or come in at the slightest hint of contractions. Fx for you that it doesn't become necessary and your little girl stays inside for the long haul!
