Skin breakout on face....HELP!!

So I am 17 weeks this week, and literally since the time I found out I was pregnant (at about 4 weeks) I have had this spot on my face.  It's a little cluster of "pimple" looking spots, right next to my chin.  It's not pimples, not ringworm (gross I know, but I work around a lot of animals and I know it's not that.)  It doesn't itch, burn, or any of that, it just looks like a dry bumpy patch.  My hairdresser thought maybe it was like scoriasis (spelling??) but I'm not sure.  I've was putting hydrocortisone cream on it, but I think that was just making it way drier, so now I'm putting baby gel oil on it every night to try and keep it moisturized.  It seemed to get better for a few days, but now it's back to it's ugly, dryness stage.....makes it look like my makeup is just caked on...gross!  Any body else experiencing anything like this or have any ideas???

  • Yea agree, maybe it could be eczema. I get it in random spots on my body when the weather is cold. There is special cream you can try and it usually does the trick for me.

  • Cetaphil, the thick kind, usually works for my eczema.

  • This is the first time I've ever had something like this....what is the cream that you use?  I'm assuming it's ok to use when pregnant...
  • You may have to go to the doctor and get prescription cream.  They would be able to tell you exactly what it is that way you know how to treat it with the right stuff.  I've had eczema before and nothing OTC worked for me so I had to go to the doctor and he gave me cream.  It was gone within 2 weeks.
  • Awesome, thanks for yalls help!

I have eczema all over my hands, only the prescription stuff helps me. Talk to your doctor and have him take a look. A lot of people say they have eczema, but really just have dry skin.

The prescription is safe, but it is a streiod cream.

  • I ended up with eczema on my chest and torso at 18 wks. I had it as a baby but not since then up until now. The dermatologist recommended some specific lotion brands, CereVe and Cetaphil specifically. I also unfortunately had to be prescribed a topical steroid to use on the patches for a few days, which my OB ok'd. I use CereVe lotion on my body and face and I use the Cetaphil body wash and both have seemed to help.
  • The prescription stuff usually works the best, but the OTC one that worked for me was from drugstore.com and it was an Urea cream (an ingredient that isn't in common brands like Neosporin or Aveeno), I don't think they carry that brand anymore. I think you might want to check ingredients to make sure it's safe and also check with your doctor to see if it requires something more prescription strength.

  • It sounds like eczema to me. I'd get a prescription from the doctor, just to be sure that what I'm using was safe. In the mean time, it wouldn't hurt to exfoliate and keep it moisturized.

  • Cetaphil makes a cream specifically for eczema, which is awesome. And FYI, it's safe for babies too. It has done wonders for DDs skin.
  • Could be perioral dermatitis. If so, hydrocortisone is one of the worst things to put on it. I'm on mobile so I can't type you the novel I want to about PD and how to treat it, because I have been battling it since around my BFP too. But if you can, get to a derm cause treatment for these things really varies.

  • I second this. I've had it before and it may be forming on my chin again. My dermatologist said a lot of times you can't pinpoint the cause, although if you've changed toothpaste and/or face products recently those could be the culprit. In my case it just showed up. They gave me a month's rx for doxycycline the first time I had it as I wasn't planning on getting pregnant and it cleared it right up, but doxy is definitely a no no during pregnancy. I'm sure there are safe antibiotics they could prescribe for you now.
  • Oh, and I also thought it was eczema at first and the creams I was using made it way worse. If it's PD you'll likely need antibiotics in oral or cream form.
