UO Thursday

Re: UO Thursday

  • @Joules235 Just that when a public figure says something, I'm not always sure it should be ignored, especially if it has traction and SHOULD be discussed.

But I do agree that it is unfortunate when major news is eclipsed, but for some people, what you or I view as "major" doesn't matter.  Which is obviously unfortunate.  But most news sources are dependent upon traffic, so they will obviously report on what people want to read about and what will drive traffic to their paper/site.
I don't think she was referring to this Rick person or the anti-gay thing when she was saying that major news stories are eclipsed though. I think she was talking about something else entirely - how Paul Walker's death kind of eclipsed Nelson Mandela's. But I shouldn't speak for her, maybe?

  • I had no idea they changed!  I do love green apple flavor things, so maybe I'll like these.  The only skittles I really disliked were the lemon ones, but I didn't LOVE the lime ones, so maybe this would be a good change?

  • I didn't mean for my UO to be political. What I really wanted to say was I think maltballs are the worst candy in existence next to peeps.
oh gross. it makes my teeth hurt thinking about them.
  • I have to say circus peanuts are BY FAR the worst candy and way worse than malt balls or even... shudder... good n plenty's. BARF

I've seen circus peanuts - never tried them - and boy... they look like clay. :)  Doesn't look appealing.

  • Food related:
I hate the new green (green apple) skittles, I really want the lime ones back.

I always prefer lime to green apple. It's been years since it switched, but I STILL complain about green fun dip :P

  • I threw up an entire bag of circus peanuts this weekend :(

I hate when people say they "popped" or they can't wait until they "pop." Idk what I want them to say instead but I think pop sounds effing stupid.

Just saw this one and I completely agree! It kind of ruins the whole bag of skittles for me now--the flavors just don't fit together
The Dark-Side skittles are the only good ones.  Blood orange ones - Yummm.
    I clearly haven't had Skittles in a while :)

  • @Joules235 Ah, sorry for assuming!  Since there was a major thread going on here about celebrity news eclipsing other stuff, I just assumed that was the frustration.  I agree that it is unfortunately when major news gets eclipsed by something that seems trivial, but I also see why it happens.

I have a food related one, too: I hate jelly beans.
okay, this is more a FFFC, but I will forget to post it tomorrow so going to be a SS and post it now.

We buy those big 10 lb bags of Jelly Bellies and I totally pick through and just eat the flavors I like and put back the ones I don't.  H hates it sooo much and is always giving me crap for it, but I don't really care. haha
I have an automatic candy dispenser at my desk (operates like a soap dispenser - put your hand under and it fills it with whatever candy is in the machine) which is currently full of jelly bellies. I pick out the ones I like and put the rest back in the machine so they don't go to waste.

I also hate skittles and good and plenty. I love maltballs and I have no idea what a circus peanut is.

    I only wish I didn't know. They are just...awful.

  • Eating a green skittle as we speak....I like them!

By malt balls, do you mean whoppers?  Those were my family's favorite when I was a kid--I can usually still find a box of them stashed somewhere when I visit my parents.  Peeps are awesome too, but only the original Easter ones.  They don't belong on the shelf for other holidays!
Yeah, I think those are the same thing. My mom loves them, so our easter baskets were always included them so we'd give them to her.

And @mrsgerman you made me lol over meat-balls haha.

Wow, I think you just blew my mind.  And this from a palate that actually enjoys circus peanuts!
  • Green apple is one of my favourite flavours ever!

    Me too!

  • I have a severe dislike of peanut butter.

Me too!! And PB and chocolate together, yuck. I also don't like milk chocolate, just dark.

  • I hate how commercial Christmas has become. Why on earth should I feel like I have to spend hundreds of dollars on gifts. My kids are older now (17 & 13) and I told them flat out this year they get one gift each from me/Santa. Otherwise it just turns into this gimme, gimme, what else you got for me atmosphere. Yes I can afford to give more, but why? Our Holiday time had always been about getting family together, not how many boxes under the tree have my name on it.

Not sure if this is an UO or a FFFC or whatever, but I just have to say it....

@wareagle1220 - every time I see your name pop up, I think it says were-eagle... like a werewolf, and then it reminds me of the Sookie Stackhouse books with were-tigers and were-panthers and all of that.

Every time I see your name I have to pause and actually say it in my head :)

    Carry on... :)

War Eagle is what crazy Auburn fans say to other crazy Auburn fans.

Also, the Sookie Stackhouse books are mostly wonderful.  I love them.  So, you can think were-eagle if you want.  It's actually pretty appropriate for my nerd-nature.

I think at some point I figured out the college fan angle to it, but every time I see it, I think "were-eagle"  :)

This is hilarious! I thought it was "were-angel" for a really long time.

I can't stand when people use "lil" instead of little. Posts that say something like, "we are having a lil girl" make me assume you are giving birth to a rapper, and make me want to jump out of my 19th floor window.

    Uh-oh! ::hanging head in shame::

Haha! That is hilarious, I have honestly never even given it a second thought when reading your screen name! This really stemmed from looking at nursery ideas and someone had "lil girl" spelled out in block letters on the side of the crib. But, I'm pretty sure putting "little girl" wouldn't be much better!

    Oh, and GO BLUE!

I figured. And I agree with you...on one point.

    O-H!
  • My UO is that I hate the UO Thursday thread. There are so many words to read... so many pages... and I want to be caught up with the homies but I also just want a nap. No one's UOs are ever that shocking (that is not a challenge, by the way) and I would rather look at hilarious gifs.

As far as Phil goes, I think it isn't fair to ask him those questions if you're not going to like the obvious answer he will give. I also think it isn't fair for him to be fired/suspended. But I also think A&E can do what they want. Freedom of speech is not usually free.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • @chickpea112, what it comes down to is that we're eerie internet soul sisters. Just sayin'.

I don't know if this belongs in UO or FFFC, but every time I see a post saying someone has lost weight, I think:
    image

Also, every time I see an AW post and see that it is that person's only post here, I think:
    image

At my appointment this morning, they told me I am a little bit ahead of my weight gain curve...All I heard was "slow down, fatty"...it isn't fair to be weighed during the holidays, and I am extra sensitive to "I have lost weight" posts today.

  • I gained 4 pounds in 4 weeks. I told the nurse that my weight didn't count because I was wearing so many clothes...she goes "that's not that bad!"...oh thanks, that makes me feel better.

  • I absolutely HATE when people say "there's no point in making a birth plan, you have no control over what happens and the more you plan the more everything will just go the opposite!" Um..no, actually, that's really really dumb. We do have control over our decisions, who we choose as our care providers, how we choose to advocate for ourselves. Just because you may have had some crazy birth plan that included needing the trans-Siberian orchestra to be playing at the moment your baby crowns and the hospital's cd player was broken, or likewise, if you had some complication and you literally had no idea that things could change quickly and feel like because you had a birth plan that didn't go perfectly, that this is somehow your fault...does NOT mean me writing down that I'd like my baby not to have erythromycin gel in his eyes "stupid" or "naïve". Also, nurses are not damn psychics, and they do not know your preferences just by looking at you, you actually need to tell them, and a typed birth plan is a good a way as any. UGH!
