I hate Lexuses. I think because I live near a dealership there are a TON of them where I live. 9 times out of 10 when someone drives like an ass, its a Lexus. *funny side note - my sister feels the same way about minivans. I drive a minivan now, she drives a Lexus. Lol!
I get grossed out when people post pictures of their kids with food all over their faces. I get that *you* think your kid looks cute covered in chocolate/yogurt/baby food/etc but I just don't want to see it.
Along the food line, I don't like when people overshare about their kids on FB. I get that you think it's amazing your kid pooped on the potty..... but we all don't need to hear about it. I can't even imagine posting about Charlie's poopsplosions or potty training fiascos when we finally get there. Is nothing sacred?!?!?! :-S
I think it's stupid when people post pictures of 12 week ultrasounds and want guesses "just for fun" about what baby's sex will be. In reality, it's no different than posting a dating ultrasound where baby looks like a blob and you want to guess. There's a 50/50 chance of being right. And no matter HOW many times people point out you cannot accurately take a guess this early in the game, people keep posting it. Ladies, relax! You will find out eventually! If you want to know sooner than later, have a blood test done!
I think people spend too much time focusing on what would be a cute baby name, and not enough time thinking about what is a good name for a grown up. Honestly - yes, that name might sound cute for a baby, possibly even a toddler, but really, when they are 25 and people won't take them seriously? Or when people see the name on a resume and assume it is a child?
I know there is a lot that goes into a name, but I do think people should consider what would be good for a 40year old as well as a 4month old.
Bare belly and/or nearly nude maternity shots creep me out and just seem AWish.
I don't think people lshould post evey detail of their own or their child's life on facebook. Once it is up on the internet it is never truly gone, and I can only imagine how mortified I would be if someone could see all of my baby albums online. I even think about where I was in life 5, 10 years ago and am glad that I have never been a huge poster. Workplaces are looking at facebook more and more, and not that i am hiding anything, but I do believe in privacy.
I have more, but this is already a long post so I'll come back later with the rest.

This! What are all the poor neveahs going to do as grown ups.

@babygabe614, are you counting first-birthday cake crush pictures? Because I DO love those
"And all the house elves came to help, and THAT was the day Voldemort was defeated!"
I don't think it's that big a deal to name your baby a "common" name. People spend so much time coming up with names that are different and aren't on the top 10 lists, or even cross names off their list because they're on those lists. Why? It just doesn't make sense to me. Name your kid the best name for you and the kid.
"And all the house elves came to help, and THAT was the day Voldemort was defeated!"
I've got a good one today. Prefaced by saying I 100% support gay rights and gay marriage.
I think A&E's decision to "fire" Phil Robertson was stupid. GQ asked a Southern Christian man what he thought of homosexuality. I'm surprised that anyone was surprised by what he said, and think many people are acting less Christian than him about the whole thing. I think he has the perfect mindset of a true Christian - he believes it is a sin, but still loves everyone the same regardless because it's not his place to judge.
I agree. Those are his beliefs and he's entitled to them. Like the episode with the pet photographer - it's not like he made fun of him or insulted him for being gay, he mostly just teased him for being a yuppy.
People get offended too easily.
**quote fail** While I do not agree with his beliefs, I couldn't help but think the same thing when I heard this on the radio this morning. My dad's family are southern Christians and while some of my family has been accepting of certain things, others believe what they believe. I don't think it's for anyone to judge the beliefs of others. In some way, I applaud him for expressing how he truly feels. (I'm not in any way saying that his beliefs are right or wrong) I feel that in some ways, we're not allowed to express our true beliefs because of the backlash.
What @jnerd said about the baby names.loo I hate 85% of the names people are wanting opinions on lately. Like Hadley, who the hell made that name up?
The only Hadley I ever knew was my Middle School PE Coach, and it was her last name.
@rmjones15 I dont like Nevaeh either. All of these kids are going to grow up wondering what their parents were thinking.
My DS2's name isn't common, I only know one other person with his name, and his is spelled different. But it's a name he can grow with its uncommon where I live but its still simple and good for a baby/toddler, and adult name.
I get grossed out when people post pictures of their kids with food all over their faces. I get that *you* think your kid looks cute covered in chocolate/yogurt/baby food/etc but I just don't want to see it.
@babygabe614, are you counting first-birthday cake crush pictures? Because I DO love those
Haha, yes, even those. ANY food all over the face kind of grosses me out. I totally agree that when it is your child, watching them enjoy that first birthday cake has got to be adorable. But I still just have an instant "yuck" reaction when I see it on my news feed.
I hope this isn't actually a UO, but it's something that's been bothering me lately, so I'll share. I cannot stand when people post naked pics of their kids on social media. Even ones that are half naked (past a certain age) are not okay.
What brings this about is this blogger I follow on Instagram. She has thousands of followers and posts tons of pics of her son, who is four. She has posted pictures of him in the bathtub, on the toilet, and most recently, a video of him dancing around in just his underwear. I get that to a parent that is cute, but you have no idea who is following you when you have a public social media site. There could be pedophiles following you just to see these pictures of your kid. Plus, those pictures are never going away. Is your kid going to want those images to pop up when some junior high kid Googles him some day? Just stop. You get a little leeway when they are a newborn/small baby, but at some point, you gotta use your head and be smart with what you put out to the world.

I agree with this. It was his freedom of speech. Yes, he should have thought it out a little more because he did say a few unnecessary things but if Macklemore can go on about gay rights, why can't Phil go on about anti-gay rights?
Anti-gay rights? Is that a thing? Free speech is important, but I'm not sure that we should be (morally) be supporting anyone's right to be a bigot.
To be fair, he didn't get fired. He was suspended from a TV show because the network didn't want to align itself with homophobia, which is their right. He had the freedom to speak, he spoke, and he faced the consequences of the hatred in his speech. That sounds pretty fair to me.

100 times agreed! Even babies. I've always said that, if I wouldn't post a picture of my husband or myself in that state of undress, I certainly shouldn't post a picture of my kid like that.

Just a quick thought on this before I continue reading the thread - I don't think the issue was that he said he disagreed with the homosexual "lifestyle" (not even going to get into THAT one, but I took note of it), it was that he went on to link it with horrible things - bestiality, alcoholism/drunkenness, and terrorism. He is 100% allowed to have his own beliefs - regardless of how horrid I find them - but A&E is allowed to censor their employee if they feel that his/her statements are dangerous to the network. They would have been absolutely STUPID to not fire him (or put him on probation or whatever it was they did).
I was reminded recently of the original "drama" we had in the early days of our June board, when a group of TB regulars wanted to try to bring some order to the posts so that we didn't have 10 DIFFERENT threads on the same exact topic. There was a decent uproar over it, feeling that the regs were trying to be controlling or whatever, and so aside from a few attempted regular threads (daily appointment threads, ticker change threads, PGAL threads), it's been mostly free form.
And it's driving me crazy. How many DIFFERENT baby name, vent, I'm X weeks today!, whatever threads do we need? The sifting I do is just frustrating some days - there are so many ladies here that any particular thread falls quickly off the page.

Anti-gay is attitudes against the LGBT community and I do not support his comments at all. I care nothing about Duck Dynasty and actually support more of the message Macklemore sends out. Phil should have known what kind of backlash this would get, but it is his freedom of speech. He probably really doesn't care too much if he's suspended from the show.
Sorry for the confusion. I know what anti-gay means; I was questioning whether there was a need (or even an existence) of "anti-gay rights." Gay rights exist because gays were alienated and didn't HAVE rights. Straight people have always had rights; they're the "norm" of heteronormative society. Why do we need to defend their rights? They're not in danger. No one told this guy he couldn't speak, no one is violating his rights--he simply faced logical consequences for saying horrible things.
I PROMISE that I'm not accusing you of being a bigot. I'm sure you're not. I just didn't like the phrase.

Yes! I sometimes only check tb 2 or 3 times a day, and I miss HUGE things (like the crazy intelligender thread a few weeks ago) because of fifty redundant posts. I know some people are annoyed by check-ins, but I'd rather have 10 check-ins than the hodge-podge disaster that is our board right now.

Meh. I don't watch Duck Dynasty, I've never seen an episode and I just don't care about it. However...he publicly stated he wouldn't be resigning his contract prior to all of this drama. He wasn't coming back and now A&E is trying to make it look like THEY let him go, instead of the other way around.
Also, I haven't read the article but I did read THE quote from it, I understood it to be less of a comparison of homosexuality to beastiality, alcoholism, and terrorism, but more of a statement saying that according to his beliefs it is a sin just the same as the aforementioned acts. A sin is a sin is a sin, no matter how big or small, a sin is a sin.
And for the record, I'm all for equality, I'm just also all for having the right facts.

I agree and disagree. He's entitled to his beliefs (again, regardless of how I view those), but he IS linking homosexuality to bestiality and terrorism and other ridiculous comparisons. Like people who link homosexuality to pedophilia. I simply can't ignore it and say "well, he views all of those as sins." I just don't think the comparisons are close to reasonable - but, that's my view. I just don't see homosexuality (who you love) being in the same category as having sex with animals or plotting to terorrize/kill/maim/etc other people.
lol who knew my bare bump could make so many people uncomfortable
I love bare baby bumps!!
My UO I hate that a stupid thing said by some reality TV star eclipses important new s in the media. I told numerous friends that Nelson Mandela had died because they had no idea, they did know all about the death of that fast and the furious star though... I hate mainstream media its mostly just stupid crap.
I agree, but I also think that as we attempt to move the dialogue forward in this country, it cannot be ignored.
What major worlds news has been eclipsed? All I see on CNN's main page is the Target credit card number issue, Kate Middleton's phone has been hacked, the Mega Millions winner is "shocked," and Dennis Rodman landed in North Korea. Just a quick scan, though, I hope I haven't missed anything big.
I was reminded recently of the original "drama" we had in the early days of our June board, when a group of TB regulars wanted to try to bring some order to the posts so that we didn't have 10 DIFFERENT threads on the same exact topic. But I really don't think that he is comparing them. He was asked what he thought was a sin. He wasn't asked what do you think these things are on the Sin Ranking System? He's just saying that they all are sins, in his opinion. In the Catholic church, we are taught "these things are sins, it doesn't matter if your sin is a little sin (lying) or a big sin (killing people)." There's no saying "well, it's just a little small sin." A sin is a sin. Being Christian, he likely feels that way. He's also saying sleeping around is a sin (regardless of sexual orientation) and adultery in that same breath and I wouldn't say that those are as bad as being a terrorist either.
BTW, I'm not saying that I personally feel that homosexuality is a sin, I don't.
He's lumping them into the same categories, though. I just find that to be problematic, because while we are having a pretty civil conversation about this, others won't look so closely to what he is and isn't saying, and they'll take it to mean that homosexuality is in the same category as those other things.
Again, I have no clue about this guy or his show (aside from the fact that it exists), but someone mentioned on FB that he's apparently been accused of adultery in the past and sleeping around. Where does hypocrisy play here? Just curious - if he does one of those things, can he still make those claims.

It depends on what report you read. The one I had read last night says both fired and suspended. I don't think they know exactly.
What he was quoted as saying in regards to segregation was :“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
Honestly I don't give two shits what he has to say. I think he's a moron and he's trashy, but he's super wealthy so this suspension isn't hurting him. Plus the season that's about to air has mostly been filmed already so he'll still be on it. He's totally allowed to spew his freedom of speech "women have a vagina and that's way more appealing than a man's anus" bullshit but people, or in this case networks, are allowed to say that they don't condone or support it. Westboro Baptist Church is allowed to picket funerals of soldiers with their disgusting free speech but you know what we can do, we can form human blockades and drown out their chants with blow horns so families of fallen soldiers don't hear that nonsense.
My UO: People should stop making someone a hero for stating a popular opinion (aka more than half the country) and condemning an entire group of people to hell because you interpret your bible as so. It's almost 2014, why is this even a thing still.
But I really don't think that he is comparing them. He was asked what he thought was a sin. He wasn't asked what do you think these things are on the Sin Ranking System? He is a born again Christian. He has admitted that when he was younger, he was big into alcohol, sleeping around, etc. Then he found Christ, and changed his ways.
AH, okay, that would be different then. Again, I don't know his story - just learning from others
@Joules235 Just that when a public figure says something, I'm not always sure it should be ignored, especially if it has traction and SHOULD be discussed.
But I do agree that it is unfortunate when major news is eclipsed, but for some people, what you or I view as "major" doesn't matter. Which is obviously unfortunate. But most news sources are dependent upon traffic, so they will obviously report on what people want to read about and what will drive traffic to their paper/site.
By malt balls, do you mean whoppers? Those were my family's favorite when I was a kid--I can usually still find a box of them stashed somewhere when I visit my parents. Peeps are awesome too, but only the original Easter ones. They don't belong on the shelf for other holidays!
