Favorable for induction?

I was checked today (post below on how horrid that was) since I am overdue and I was 1.5 dialated and 60% effaced. Dr said I am favorable for induction. I thought to be induced its much better to be around 3 to 4 cm? She was thinking all I would need is pitocin. I don't want to be induced but they won't let me go past 41 weeks. I go back to the dr this Friday again and do not want another cervix check. They would send me for induction Monday if I haven't started labor on my own.

Re: Favorable for induction?

  • They can't make you induce...

Here is a chart that helps figure out if you are favorable for induction.

    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)

  • I am basically the same, and at my appt today she told me I am not favorable.  She told me they *could* induce me, but she was afraid I would end up with a c-section.  I go back Monday for a NST and an ultrasound.  My blood pressure, and urine were fine so she thinks I am better off waiting.

  • With my 1st I went in for an induction at 2cm, 50% effaced. It was 5.5 hours start to finish.

  • I was told today for the second time that my cervix is not favorable for induction. They won't let me go past 41 weeks, so if I haven't had her on my own they will induce me on Christmas night at 7pm. It's really frustrating because I've been ready 2 different times to go to the hospital, but the doctors are doing it for our safety. I'm getting the cervadil, but I'm just praying this little girl comes out on her own in the next few days.
  • I was 1.5 cm and 50% and labor was about 6 hours for me when I was induced.

  • i am scheduled too be induced on February 27th. i will be exactly 39 weeks and 1 day. chose to do this because of having several different doctors in my gn and wanting a specific one to deliver baby due to the fact that i am most comfortable with him. This is my first baby. is this safe you think?
  • I was induced with my first and not dilated at all. My water did break though

I would not induce unless medically necessary.

My last I waited til 42 weeks 1day to be induced.. Dilated at 1 and 50% effaced. I went through 36 hours labor after pitocin started. Manual water breaking. And ended up with a csection. Not trying yo scare you but to answer your question. No I hate inductions and had a horrible experience. Not everyone is the same...
I'm with @jaxxm on this one. I was 41w+1 overdue and barely dilated. We started with 3 rounds of cytotec, which brought on painful contractions, but no progress. Tried pitocin and had awful back labor, tried a round of cerviadil followed by more pitocin. My water started leaking on its own, doctor fully ruptured it. 24 hours later, barely progressed to 3cm. I went through 60 hours of labor and ended up with a c-section and my lo in the nicu. It was a nightmare on my body and a miserable experience.

Everyone seems to be very different though!

  • I was favorable at 2cm and 60% effaced. All they gave me was a little cream they rubbed on my cervix and my body took over. 7 hours later DD was born.

This sounds pretty ideal. I am 3 cm and over 80% effaced as of Sunday, but the damn contractions just won't get regular. I have a feeling we will be discussing options at my appt later this morning, but really don't want pitocin since I don't think I can get an epi.

  • I'm wondering if I should just go straight for csection then? I know they won't let me go longer then 41 weeks and my body isn't having contractions or anything yet.

Definitely not. I honestly think it's a bunch of BS. I have plenty of friends who were considered "very favorable" for induction 3-5 cm, effaced, low baby), were induced, and ended up having sections. I, on the other hand, was considered "very unfavorable," no contractions except for BH contractions, 1 cm dilated, high & closed cervix & had a perfectly smooth vaginal delivery.

My contractions were 12 - 20 mins apart but just wouldn't regulate. The dr said for two weeks that she thought I'd go at any minute but then nothing. She thought I just needed that extra little push to get going.

My water broke when the dr went to check my cervix and DD was born an hour later. I went from barely 4cm to 10cm in a 1/2 hour so there was no time for the epi. I had an epi with my DS and honestly it was definitely well worth getting it. Jmo.

  • Today is my due date and we are set to go to the hospital tonight to be induced.  We aren't as favorable for induction as our doctor would like, but he is letting us try induction first before going straight to a c-section.  At this point, he just doesn't want me to go past my due date due to baby's size (he's measuring quite large) and my fluid levels.  Has anyone gone into an induction not being very favorable and had much success?

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first and will be induced monday at exactly 39 weeks this time. I see nothing wrong with being induced if dr says its ok and baby will be ok no need to go to 42 weeks

What are they going to try for induction? For me it sounds like just pitocin. She told me I was favorable but looking up stuff online I'm not so sure. I have til Monday so hopefully I go into labor before then. Good luck today and hope labor goes fast and smoothly!!

I don't know if I was considered favorable or not. I went in bc my water broke but I was barely dilated at all. So I'm guessing I was unfavorable. I did cryotec (not sure of spelling) and then pitocin. It went fine, faster than the doctors expected.

They are trying cytotec first at midnight tonight.  In the morning, he'll come in to see me and evaluate if we should start pitocin and then break my water, or if we are still without progress and should discuss a c-section.  I am about 50% effaced and barely 1 cm dilated, however, baby boy was at -2 station at our last appointment.  :(

I would not induce unless medically necessary.
I don't agree with this at all. I was induced with my first because my water broke and I would do it every time.  Everyone has a different experience.

You have to deliver within 24 hours of your water breaking. If your water breaks & you dont progress, they give pitocin. Yours was medically necessary. What don't you agree with?

I don't agree that it should only be done for a medical necessity.  Almost all the people I know choose to be induced.  I am choosing to be induced tomorrow.  I know what to expect and I like that.

  • I was only 1.5 cm with DD as well, and all they needed was Pitocin and breaking my water to get her out. Is it ethical to MAKE you induce if you don't want to? You aren't "overdue" until past 42 Weeks. If you don't want to as a rule, make sure to express your wishes, and don't let them boss you around. I don't really know how all that works, but I guess the doctors know what they're doing, and either way, you will do fine, Mama! Hoping for an easy labor and delivery! GL! >:D<
